How do I get my friend to regulate their metabolism?

Someone I know went cut crazy for way too long, and now their metabolism is kind of messed up; they eat below what their maintenace should be, and don't lose any weight. When they eat at what their maintenance should be, they gain weight quickly. How do they fix that?

I think maintenance calories change over time. It depends heavily on the persons bodyweight. My maintenance has gone down a bit over the last 8 months from around 3900 (when I weighed 330 pounds) to 3200 now (weighing about 283 pounds). You can probably use some kind of calculator to find your friends maintenance at his current bodyweight.

Also, muscle generally requires more calories per day to maintain.

The best way to tell is to have him/her strictly count every calorie for 3 days to figure out what maintenance should be.
