Gopro, Dr Pain or w8

My kickboxing instructor grabbed me yesterday and was frantic. She said she is going to Cozumel in 10 days and can't seem to lose the little bit of fat on her butt, and wanted me to tell her what to do.

Well this woman does kickboxing, teaches spinning, and bootcamp and who knows what else, but can't lose the fat.

My guess is she eats too little, does too much cardio, and no weights at all. She wanted to know about cutting out all sodium if that would work, or doing a carb deplete if that would work. I would also bet that she doesn't eat 6 small meals a day.

What do I tell her to do in 10 days, she wants to enjoy her vacation so I don't think carb depletion is the answer.

What I am thinking of telling her is laying out 6 small meals a day with absolutely no processed foods at all. Trying to get her around 1800-2000 calories a day. Will that work in time. Is there anything she can do at this point.

Thanks

Sounds like she needs better planning skills.

Well i'm neither of those three you asked, but a refeed could possibly be a good idea here.

If what you say is correct, then chances are that her hormones have crashed and her metabolism is shutting down.

A refeed on predominantly carbs (starchy ones) would help boost leptin, help upregulate the thyroid and generally make her feel a little better.

Of course, since this involves eating more calories i have a feeling she won't do it...

Thanks CD, I think you are absolutely correct on both points. She needs to do it, and probably won't.

Can you elaborate a little on the refeed with predominantly carbs, and leptin.

Just tell her it's not physically possible to get the desired body in 10 days. You can go on a strict diet and supplement with a thermal and still not work a miracle in 10 days if your metabolism is screwed up.

Cutting sodium to lose weight?!? Jeez-Louise.

If she's freaking out, she won't listen to you anyway. She'll probably starve herself even more and then binge when she gets to Cozumel.

Well Lyle McDonald and Elzi Volk both advocate starting with glucose polymers at first (basically maltodextrin) and then moving onto mroe solid foods such as oats, potatoes etc... starchy carbs, not sugary ones.

Ironically, you want the carbs to spill over a little into fat cells, cause here is where leptin is released from and the spillover upregulates the leptin.

The metabolites given off when carbs (starchy carbs) are metabolised via the hexosamine pathway are also responsible for the upregulation in leptin in the fat cells.

Thanks CD, appreciate it.

I said I would put a plan together for her, and I will tell her it probably won't work in 10 days, but I need to give her something.

So your body releases Leptin, which might regulate your metabolism, but because your blood sugar is elevated, your body can't effectively burn fat.

In ten days I don't think this is a viable obtion. An increase in fat/ decrease in carbs would offer more fat loss. But we only have ten days. Why not just have her dehydrate herself? Kick her water consumption up to 6-8 liters a day for the next few days, taper that off as the vacation comes closer, and have her take dandelion.

I'm late, sorry, but Showdonw nailed it!

In 10 days, we could hope for a combination of carb/glycogen depletion, and a small 1/2 to 3/4 pound loss of BF, Then a lower level of hydration from the combination of more water intake and a diuretic....which will make her basically feel like crap for a few days, but give the the illusion of being TEMPORARILY leaner!
