I've thought about it, but I don't know if the health benefits outweigh the downsides. Its depriving your body of what it needs....I think if you drink a lot of water you will flush out all the toxins fasting would...if not more.

Your body as a whole needs nutrients. Fasting in my eyes just deprives the body of what it needs to function.

I have Buddhist friends that fast occasionally and they seem plenty healthy. Hell, they are probably some of the healthiest looking people I have ever seen. The needs of the body are over emphasized while the needs of the mind and soul are extremely over looked.

I am sure that fasting isn't going to hurt anyone if they do it safely. It has been part of religious practices for centuries. Also from what I have learned from my friends it is a great way to reach a new level of discipline and self determination. Those tools could be applied to putting back all that was lost during the fast and then some.

Is part of their religious practices to workout, or body build? I think for anyone that is taking part in any form of a workout has more to lose than gain from fasting....just my opinion.

My ex girlfriend ate like total shit every meal of the day, but her body was rediculous....she would always say to me "I am the fattest skinny person you know"....what you see on the outside doesn't always relect whats going on on the inside.

Yea, I fast once a month too. Well sort off, Its like they say you need nutrients therefore I fast 1-2 weeks. I'm not that religious and I only do it cause of my parents forcing it lol.

It hurts my metabolism, I mean as a student my school starts at 8am, but I have to wake up at 4:30am to eat while I go to bed at 11-something, waking up at that you don't even want to eat. But if you don't eat, your screwed for the day.

They are all yogies. They do yoga, bike ride, lift weights, ect. They are very in tune with their bodies. They have taught me a lot of cool tricks to apply to my training that have worked nicely. The difference between what they and I are doign is that they are centered around health where as I am centered around strength and appearance.

If you google for the topic, you get some very interesting links. It can even be used to cure cancer - I didn't know that. After having read quite a bit on the topic, it doesn't sound so dumb to me anymore. Anyway, I wouldn't do it; sounds a bit too tough for my taste.

I've moved to Bornoe (for lurv - and as it's more civilised than the UK!). Here once a year they have 'hari raya', an Islamic thing that basically entails no eating or drinking during the hours of daylight - for a month!

Really screws me up each time. Next year I'm not going to cheat as such but will certainly avoid the after nightfall visiting thing where you go round people's houses and get stuffed with cakes and candy.

I mean really, can you imagine anything worse for bodybuilding?

No water, no protein, then you're expected to eat cake n cookies.

    *sigh*

I find the "cure cancer" thing real hard to believe. They give cancer patients marijauna to make them eat because the cancer and drugs take away their desire to eat...and they waste away....so the weed gives them the munchies so they eat and keep their bodyweight up....so I am going to throw the BS flag on this play.

I have a very enormous buddy (looks like a pro bodybuilder) who fasts once every 3 months or so. He drinks some kind of drink (something with vinegar in it). Anyways at the end of his fast he crappin out white turds. But he claims he feel a ton better.

How long does he fast for?

I've long been interested in the 'detox' concept of fasting, which would include drinking plenty of water as opposed to the Borneo version.
