Oh for crying out loud....yeah, I'm sure it "works", since it's a 1400 calories diet. Doesn't mean it's healthy! Let's see, 2 Krispy Kremes for breakfast, a Quarter Pounder for lunch, and 2 Taco Supremes for dinner. Excellent!

Thanks for the link - always good to get the eye-rolling practice in....

    Fast food diet? ha ha...

The Atkins diet itself isn't really special in itself, its a Ketogenic diet with his name on it.

I saw an "Investigative Report" on fad diets, and Atkins was at the top of the crap list. He actually has the audacity to claim he doesn't have enough funding to do a proper study to prove his diet doesn't have health risks. Let's see...30 years of books, 10 million copies sold...yeah, I'd be a little strapped too.

At least Ornish and Sears back their stuff up with studies...of course those can be skewed as well.

Atkins makes a living because people can eat crap all the time and think they are losing weight. People like him are who give nutrition a bad name.

Atkins diet works for a co-worker of mine, so I would be wary of calling it "crap all the time and think they are losing weight".

She eats chicken or steak with cheese dripping off it, and is definately losing weight dude.

I agree with the fact that people on that diet lose weight. There is no denying that. I tell clients that all the time...however...I also agree that people on that diet gain the weight back more often than not as soon as they start eating carbs again. Plus, the cholesterol intake alone is enough to seriously cause health issues for years to come after the diet ends (if it ever does). It's not hard to lose weight on 1400 calories a day.

I just would rather see people change their lifestyle towards a healthier outlook overall instead of jumping on the fad diet bandwagon. Weight loss is not rocket science, but it can be dangerous to your body if done the wrong way.

Why must you go back to eating carbs when the fat comes off??? Many who allow time to adjust to a low carb diet feel better and look better than ever before. Eating high fat and cholesterol are NOT the causes of health problems, people still buy into this BS without learning the facts. Eating protein and fats is healthy, granted, the Atkins Diet is far from perfect, but its much more optimal than the majority of other diets out there. Fat and cholesterol are essential to our health, carbs are not and quite detrimental in even slight excess.
