Most Americans don't realize that they are probably already eating a pound or two of insects each year. One cannot see them, since they have been ground up into tiny pieces in such items as strawberry jams, peanut butter, spaghetti sauce, applesauce, frozen chopped broccoli, etc.
    Cuz I care

Hey, I'll save those recipes for our "Iron Magazine Survivor" challenge ....someday!

I remember seeing a quote from an FDA official years and years ago that said something like "There's more nutrition from the insects in the cereal, than the ceral itself".

People get freaked out about bugs in their food, but I spent an early part of my life (7-10) living in Japan where they served things like fried grasshoppers and whatnot. It doesn't gross me out that much.

I'm more worried about what happens to the food you order in a restuarant before it comes to your table, than I am about insects in food.

Oh, if you ride a motorcycle alot, you probably eat more bugs than the avg american (I know I've caught a few in my mouth)

DP, FASCINATING article. Thanks for sharing.

Caterpillars are awfully high in calories, don't ya think? Personally, I'm not too concerned too much about little insects in my fruit or meat. I can just imagine some of the stuff we've all eaten that we do not know about.

You got that right but I'd rather not have them get shoved down my throat at 120 clicks

Insects, bee larvae, all popular in some eastern parts of the world - high in protein!
