Book - Power Eating ???
Any thoughts or comments on this book for those of you who have read it? A buddy of mine from work just finished reading it so he let me borrow it and I've just started reading it and the train of though it totally different then what has been pounded in my head for years.
He is a carb advocate and stresses less protein is needed day to day for those trying to gain mass/losing weight etc etc. In general it states not as much protein as some think is needed but more so more carbs are needed and offer more energy for workouts over protein. In the end calories in need to be less then calories out to lose weight this is a gimme but the macro break down of what you eat as per the book can drasticly be changed promoting a healthier life, less suppliments needed, and a more enjoyable eating routine rather then the standard for what is given today. He promotes from what I've gotten so far for my goals somewhere around a 50/35/15 c/p/f He also promotes small amoutn of protein pre workout (15-20g) with carbs )50-60g) pre workout high GI carbs post workout for 0-4 hours every 2 hours (one meal immediatly and 2 others every 2 hours). There is alot in this book and I've learned alot just from the first few chapters. I'm just curious what you guys think of the higher carb diet lower fat protein in regards to still losing weight while maintaining/building LBM and energizing your workouts (more hypertrophy) vs the conventional high protein low carb diets where you tend to drag ass after a while. |

i like carbs with all meals LOL.
but from what I have always been taught to cut you cut carbs. this guy is saying in general a high carb count vs a lower protein count is the way to go for all eating. if you want to bulk simply add more calories in total but keep the same macros so to speak. So far from the book I've gotten I should be taking in 140g of protein a day total. 40g from that total is post w/o. I should also be taking in 50g carbs pre workout w/ 15-20g protein and 50g high GI carbs post w/o whether it be solid or liquid carbs followed by another 50 high GI in the next meal and a total of 680 carbs roughly for the day. Thats putting me roughly at 3280 cals without even factoring in fats. I have only started the first 60 pages of the book so I'm sure this will change at some point just curious if anyone else has enriched their minds with this book. Yeah this forum is in V-Fib, we need synchronized cardioversion stat.
DB, all i can personally say is to give it a shot. With so little fat intake, you really have to keep those fats to mono and poly unsaturated. I personally love steak, and having some mayo with my tune, sour cream with my sweet potato etc so i eat a bit more fat, a bit less carbs and lots of protein than that guy advocates. The majority of medical professionals advise diets that come close to what you are saying, but i don't listen to anything they say, unless we are talking chronic electrolyte imbalance problems. I'm very set in my ways and they seem to work for me when i have the time/consistency to actively work toward my fitness goals. If you are open minded, go for it and let us know how you make out. Hell maybe you'll make a convert out of me. |

That is basically the same info I got off this forum when I first joined. Jodi and Emma were very helpful. The macro you posted is pretty much the macros I use for bulking, but for cutting, it's usually 40/40/20 for me. I have done 50/35/15 too of course, but only in spurts.
In my opinion, this forum deteriorated because Jodi and Emma left. They were the heart of D&N. |

Obstacles don't have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don't turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it.
