Hi all
I'm sure that this question has been answered many times before but. My question is that i'm down to around 9.3% fat i am 34yrs old at 5.6''ft i have started to see some nice definition around my abs. But far can i go down in BF and still be healthy and show little more def. I'm just worried if i take it to far my body will start chewing into my muscle stores instead of fat stores. If i try and keep my BF down for to long. ![]()

As a general rule you can go down to about where you are, 9%, for substained periods. Cutting down to 5% or so if purely for competitions and photoshoots, not for everyday life.
You're fairly young so maybe 8.5% if you want to split hairs but at 9% you're already leaner than most teenagers and in the top 5% or so of 34 years olds (that's a guesstimate but a good one). If you want greater definition I'd say you're at the stage where working your abs is worthwhile. You'll always hear the usual "abs are made in the kitchen" stuff and there's a lot of truth to that but if you have visible abs and want them more visible, work them. B. |

Men should always keep at least 8% bodyfat...and women around 10%...any lower and it becomes stressful on critical organs in your body such as your kidneys, liver, etc... Thats the reason why bodybuilders who keep their bodyfat really low tend to have bad health problems in the future. One of them was a good friend of mine who died from the stress of having too little fat... it kept taking a toll on his organs and a lot of people need to be more educated on body fat. I see a lot of ignorance. Its mainly the ignorance of todays bodybuilding saying you arent good enought if you have fat on ya which is stupid....but oh well. Use commonsense and good luck
