Welcome Back, Jodi!
I just want to say I am happy to see you back and posting again.
When I first got to IM, I spent most of my time in the Diet & Nutrition forum. At the time, I had lifted for a few years but had never gone on a “clean” diet before. To me, dieting meant not eating chips and fast food, and just eating less in general. I was pretty much clueless when it came to what I consider real dieting now. Everyone was very helpful in giving me pointers, but Jodi and Emma especially; they were willing to break down my diet meal by meal, macro nutrient by macro nutrient. They responded to my PMs asking ridiculous questions. I read the stickies, but relied on them to clarify by giving me precise answers to my questions, which really helped drive the understanding. Although I wasn’t obese or fat at the time by any means, they really changed my life for the better. Today, what I consider myself as fat, is what most of America considers themselves to be in good shape. And I owe a lot of it to Jodi and Emma. I just want to say thank you both very much. I had been wanting to write this for a while now, but never really set aside the time to do it. I am busier in my life now than ever, but that is also part of the reason I am making sure I do it, because Jodi and Emma have always found the time to critique diets and give out helpful information, free of charge. What I have learned for Jodi and Emma’s posts are priceless, and I know that I never would have hired a dietician or nutritionist to do for me what they have. In fact, I don’t think I would have gotten the same results either, as I tend to believe most in the health profession tend to cater to the general population, not necessarily the already athletic population. Some have complained that Jodi’s critiques are too nitpicky, but if you read the previous sentence, you can probably figure out that I appreciate this. I remember around a year after I joined IM, I had a conversation with a few other “health nut” friends. They all frequented different forums than IM. The conversation led to me giving everyone dieting pointers. And that is what I had always kept in my head as why IM stood out from other fitness and bodybuilding forums. Jodi and Emma. It was really a combination of a lot of members that were consistently helpful (LAM, pfunk, cowpimp and many others), but Jodi stood out the most to me as being consistently helpful and willing to go in-depth and provide articles. When someone asks about how to lose fat or how to gain muscle, the number one answer is almost always “proper diet is the most important.” Not long ago, someone had made a comment that the Diet & Nutrition forum has really gone to shit lately; that it used to be so many new responses were made that the whole front page would be all newly replied threads, and now there are only three or four new threads at the top ever. Anyway, the reason is pretty obvious... because Jodi and Emma left, and no one else really gives a shit about helping newbies out. I don’t blame them either; I try to contribute occasionally, but found that most are ungrateful about receiving advice (even when I had corresponded with them for weeks through PM and AIM). Anyway, these thanks are far overdue. Just know that even when they aren’t said, many are grateful and continue to be grateful for your help, Jodi. |

Without Jodi's input in D&N I probably would have given up after not seeing results. Jodi is by far the most important part of my success in the gym. Welcome back Jodi. |

i wholeheartedly agree.
i'm still pretty new here but i have also benefited greatly from the all the knowledge in the stickies, albeit some of it is over my head. kentdog is right that a lot of people here don't give back to the website by being willing to help the newbies. it's easy to see though how one would get frustrated by ungratefulness after you try and help - especially when they don't put any real effort into it. i think it'd be great if more people started helping out a little more with questions. most of the questions people ask are nobrainers for the people that have been here longer. when i started out here people continued to give me advice even though i felt like i was asking the same questions over and over. it's great when regular people (myself included) - not just the mods help people out.
