I haven't been that lean in a few years, looks like your arms might be larger than the rest of your upper body (?)

i'm assuming somewhat mesomorph, (he's got the startings of a good chest) perhaps wid a mix of the other two ??

Body types are a balance like anything else, but I've seen people much more naturally "mesomorphic", he looks like a normal fellow to me, i.e. not fat.

Ecto : normally lean, has difficulty gaining mass...toughest type to be a huge bodybuilder with.

Mesomorph : good size, puts on mass fairly easily, usually genetically advantaged over other types.

Endomorph : larger structure, usually more inclined towards gaining bodyfat.

Most people are a combination of two of them...ecto-meso, meso-endo, etc. You may look like an ecto now, but actually be a meso...which you will find out after training for a while. We all had to start somewhere...noone on this board got looking that way overnight, and neither did anyone in your gym. It takes years of training and dieting. So get started.

Right now I'd consider him a ectomorph. Since he considers himself scrawny, it almost has to be ecto. If he was a mesomorph, he'd know it. He could probably progress to ecto-mesomorphic after a few years of hard training, but I seriously doubt that he'll ever be fully mesomorphic. His bone structure isn't big enough to be endomorphic.

its almost all genetics, pood. Sorry. Don't let that hold you back or anything. Its all about making the most of what you have.

Its not so much that you are scrawny, but you just lack definition. You should try some different exercises if you have been doing the same routine because it is not yielding much tone. Obviously more muscle mass will help you out a lot as well. I can see potential though.

Also you should really start working those traps and shoulders, they will give you a wider appearance, because your structure is quite narrow.

Looks like traps wont be a problem for him, definately dont neglect the shoulders though as mentioned. Its so easy to neglect things early on because your mind is one the arms and not the package.
