Any veggie burger eaters?

Looking for some recommendations on brand names. I've been big into Morning Star lately, but I'm trying to mix it up a little.

Nothing, I was curious if there was a specific reason you wanted to eat them healthwise. Nothing wrong with the real thing, apparently that isn't the reason you eat them.

There tends to be textured soy protein in those kind of products, which personally I find taste crappy.

There are a lot of recipes out there using black beans, barley and tofu.

Good low-fat source of protein alternative to any other type of burger I guess. I've had my fair share of nasty tasting veggie burgers, but there is a lot out there now. I honestly think they taste very good, but I could see how some people don't like them (the same way some don't like soy milk).

I've found I really like frozen turkey burgers. I just toss then on the grill outside. No fuss and little clean up. I add all the regular condiments. I find it to be very enjoyable fast protein. I hate the taste of soy burgers. If I didn't want the protein I pick a simple portabella mushroom over veggie burgers any day.

I actually don't mind veggie burgers at all.

It's just the soy in them is a no-no for me.

I've tried them... don't eat them much at all, except for if I have no other protein source in my house.. Garden Burgers are just ok for me.. I prefer Boca Burgers, but they still don't taste great to me.

Ok yes I watch Foodtv regularly.

This looked pretty good.

Quote:
VEGAN TOFU BURGER
8 ounces firm tofu (250 grams)
¼ cup Tahini (60 millilitres)
½ cup ground walnuts (60 grams)
1 tablespoon fresh dill, chopped
1-tablespoon soy sauce (15 millilitres)
1-cup bread crumbs (75 grams)
4 ounces mushrooms (125 grams)
1 tablespoons olive oil (15 millilitres) Preparation time is 30 minutes
Preheat the grill to high
Mash the tofu with the tahini in a bowl with a fork. Add the dill and the soy sauce.
Slice the mushrooms and then, in a separate frying pan over a medium-high heat, cook them in a slick of olive oil. Once they have released their water and are beginning to caramelize, add them to the tofu mixture. Add the walnuts and the breadcrumbs until the correct texture is achieved. The mixture should be just firm enough to form patties without being soggy.
Form the tofu into burger shapes and place on an oiled grill. Cook until browned on both sides.

That recipe is pretty good; I've used it a couple times.

I'm not a huge fan of the Morningstar stuff just because they have - at least in the past, not sure about now - used genetically modified soy.

the owner of Boca Burgers lives in my town, his kid who I graduated high school with would bring those things in all the time.. unfortunately, they taste like garbage.

Try garden burger brand. My school offers the original and flame grilled and I find them way more delicious than boca.

Ah HA! I knew it!

Seriously though, it doesn't take long to increase a recipe like the one Betty Crocker posted above.

You can make a large batch, form 'em, wrap 'em and freeze them for another day. I'd much rather eat something that was made with ingredients I've seen and washed and prepped myself. This genetic/toxin thing is getting waaay out of control.

I was veggie for a few years. Never found anything better than morningstar grillers prime. Thaw it out and grill it for a second with some oil and its pretty good. I'd top it with morningstart Faykin(fake bacon) and its actually good enough to trick the tastebuds.....a little.
