what are the best on-the-go, healthy snacks?

I just started a new construction job where im workin 50 hour weeks and one lunch break during the day. So ive been eating a nice large breakfast around 7:30-8:00, and then ill eat an All Bran bar around 10:30 ish, then lunch around 1 (sandwich, fruits, water and some almonds or other nut) and then I eat a protein bar and a banana around 4ish. then im done work, and go on with regular eating. What are some other healthy, high protein snacks I can stick in during the day? I am liking protein bars so far, as they keep me pretty full and with energy (wich i need).

Also, is it healthy to eat protein bars every day? I used to try and keep my synthetic protein intake to a minimal, but ive been eatnig bars and shakes daily due to my shedule. what do u guys think? any one else in a similar situation where u dont have alot of time to eat, or need healthy, high protein snacks u can just whip out? I need em! lol

synthetic protien might be bad in the long run but who cares. we consume so much preservatives ect that we will most likely die from that first.are you making your own protien bars? if not than thats a better option cause its way cheaper and doesnt have sugar or much artifical stuff. check the recipe for homemade protien bar on the reciepe subsection of this forum. i think you are doing fine. make some to go chicken/tuna/turkey bowls with brown rice if you have time. low sugar beef jerky. your all bran bar doesnt probally have enough protein does it?

your kind of vague on your training, macros and portions so thats probally why nobody else has responded.

well im burning alot of cals each day with my job, so i havent been paying that close attention to my macros (i was before... but lately, i havent been as diligent, and ive already lost 5 lbs since i started work a week ago).

The protein bars i get are the expensive ones at wal mart... meso flex, "zone" health bars, and other brand type protein bars. I bought a bunch of differfnt ones to see what ones I liked and what ones gave me the most energy. I was just wondering if its ok to eat a bar every day? and what are some other stuff i could just like, keep in my pocket and eat when i get a minute or two... these guys are old construction guys who are eating 1-3 meals a day, no breakfast, never touched a weight in their life... they dont understand the concept of eating 5-6 times a day,and quite frankly, think its retarded.

"Synthetic" protein still contains all the amino acids you need, it's just been isolated with a lot of processes and stuff. Unlike the goodies in veggies and fruits this is no biggie with proteins, as they are such basic things.

That doesn't mean you don't need such goodies as vitamins, minerals, antioxidants etc, just that "freshly picked" doesn't really apply to protein, so don't worry about it.

I'd agree that homemade is the way to go if you can, though working long hours won't make it overly convenient. Basically you already have a pretty good setup and I'd suggest sticking with it for awhile and see how it goes before changing much. With that kid of work a fairly high carb intake is fine as you'll be burning it anyway, so experimenting over time is the way to go, rather than seeking the pefect formula and sticking to it from the start.

Best of luck - and don't worry about your workmates, they're there to earn money rather than muscle.

Low sugar protein bars, fresh fruit, almonds, cottage cheese/SF yogurt (if you eat them soon after you take them out of the fridge ), cut up veggies, All-bran, protein powder in a bottle (just add water).
