morning meal

Hey guys. Not new to the iron or dieting game. but due to a crazy summer class/work schedule, I been left with no choice but to get my ass up at 5 am and workout. Just wanted to know what kinda of meals any of you earlybirds chowed down on in the wee hours of the morning before training.

You train in the AM? How early? And what do you eat at bedtime?

I have the same problem as you. I just have a whey protein shake, oil, and banana blended together. I have the shake the moment I wake up, and I am at the gym 1/2 hour to 45 minutes after that.

Can you not train at evening/ night? I find it very hard to believe a decent workout is possible at that rediculous time.....

Not really, I made my best gains during the early mornings.
The gym is empty, no distractions, no waiting for the weights, no idiot talking nonstop. Sweet!

You just have to go to bed earlier than usual.

But finding time to make something quick can be tricky at times.

At that time in the morning I can't raise an eye brow, nevermind an erecti..... wait, wrong thread.

But seriously, I'm too stiff, unco-ordinated, dehydrated, no energy at that time. Just does not work at all for me. I'd give up lifting if that was my only option.

in the past i worked out in the mornings, and just ate anything. workouts were good, but I was also a newbie in training so gains came anyway and I still had that supercharged metabolism. Its hard to get up, but once i crawl my ass out of the bed and get moving im fine. It is almost impossible right now to train in the evening with my work schedule. I appreciate the responses. As far as goals im just looking to maintain strength and muscle mass, cuz im not trying to go all crzy at 6 in the morning and hurt myself

You can gain just fine at 6 AM. If I had to train that early, I might have some carbs with my protein at bedtime, and then a shake as the others mentioned above. If you get your food in 45 minutes before you start training, you can probably get away with scrambled eggs and toast if you want. But if that's going to take more work than you have in you at 5 AM, do the shake, maybe with a couple pieces of toast with butter and jam.

I tried boiled eggs.....but I left a few people wondering who left that awful smell.

I tried bananas but I was hungry a half hour later, shakes were great...except for the gas part again.

It just depends how motivated you are...i love training at those hours! Before I went to midnights when I was on first shift I was training at 4am...gains have nothing to do with the time of day.
