Does anyone know the recommended protein intake after a workout.Currently i consume about 35 grams of whey protein that I mix with milk. So all together it probably adds up to about 50 grams of protein. So is this enough or should I try to add more protein to the shake and if so what could I add? Any suggestions would really be appreciated.
Thanks |

I would say if you weigh 200lbs that would be 200grams of protein intake per day, broken down into 6 meals would be 33 grams. Some might say you need more protein after a work-out, than other meals, but either way that would be the minimum IMO.

I drink a shake that has 50g protein after my workouts. I make sure I eat plenty of protein rich foods such as chicken, fish, tuna, and turkey, especially on workout days and the day following a workout.

poast work out i have a shake with half a gram of protein per kg body weight and about 0.8 grams of glucose per kg body weight. I also add about 10g of glutamine when i can afford it. I find this works pretty well!

I agree, carbs are just as important post work-out as protein. BOARD SPONSORS: ![]()

There have been studies showing that we can absorb a tremendous amount of protein at 2 times during the day....first meal of the day and post workout.I have experimented with up to 100 grams of liquid protein with 100 grams of carbs at these meals with great success.I implement this strategy during the very intense phases of my training with great results.I weigh around 235-240,and take in about 50 grams of protein at my other meals....so if you are a smaller,or bigger, bodybuilder, you may need to adjust the amounts according to YOUR size.

I eat 3 post workout meals, the heightened glucose uptake/protein synthesis after a weight training workouts lasts about 3 hours. So, I take advantage. I have a meal right after my workout, another an hour later, and another an hour after that. Comes out to be about 150g of protein, and 175g of carbs.

Justin, what kind of carbs and protein do you consume after training and each hour after that?
