Difficulty in maintaining P/C ratio for Veggies

    Hi,

I have read all the stickies.

I want to maintain a Protein Carb ratio not more than 1:2..say around 1: 1.5 or something.

I am veggie and find it very challenging... Have already made a list of all the available foods and their protein Carb fat content etc.. have seen Fitday.com too.. I am finding it real difficult to keep the balance as only few Veggie Foods I see have a Protein Carb Ratio less than 1: 2.

Any advise.. (other than asking me to switch to nonveg) I have started taking egg white nowadays..and cant go anything beyond that

As a vegetarian you may find it difficult to maintain this number as a rule. But it’s not entirely necessary. As a veggie you should know of the good non-meat proteins, cottage cheese (many ‘recipes’ can spruce it up), tofu, yoghurt, seeds, beans.

If you’re really keen about mainting this number ratio, you should probably invest in a protein powder – whey or something.

Nothing magical about ratios. Your body can't do math.

I think my question is not clear. Let me rephrase with additional information.

Based on feedback from members of this messageboard to my questions, I have started monitoring my Protein, Carb, Fat gms. and also equivalent ratios. Being a Lacto Ovo Vegetarian, I consume lot of things for my protein intake such as Whey, Soya Chunks, Tofu, Egg Whites, Qunioa,Peanuts,Almonds, Mushrooms, Chickpeas, Spinach, Low fat Yoghurts etc etc. For Omega 3, i take flaxseed crush, Codliver oil capsules etc.

I notice that whatever I do, my Protein Carb ratio cannot stay below 1:2. Last weeks figures below:

    2113 Cal, P: 131 gm, C: 306 gm, F: 39 gm
    2068 Cal, P: 117 gm, C: 324 gm, F: 33 gm
    2028 Cal, P: 94 gm, C: 310 gm, F: 47 gm
    2769 Cal, P: 143 gm, C: 380 gm, F: 78 gm

The foods in my list that have Superior Protein to Carb content are limited and i cant simply take them the whole day eg:

Almonds, Eggwhites, Tofu, Whey, Spinach etc.

I would prefer not to waste my time managing my diet lists if someone confirms that a Protein to Carb Ratio is not that important to watch. Can I just make sure that I get my "x" gms of Protein each day and carry on with my regime ? If i dont watch the carb contents they may fall in the ratio of 2 or 3 to protein content. Is that worrisome?

On an additional note, is it important to consume 1% fat Milk for its calcium & protein content. I had given up milk for long time.

    Thanks

You were quite clear from the start. There is no reason to maintain a 2:1 or any other type of ratio.

If you get in at least a gram of protein per pound lean mass, at least half a gram of fat per pound lean mass and your calories are in line with your goals, you're fine.

No need to drink milk unless you enjoy it. I would strongly urge you to develop a love affair with cottage cheese though. Lots of protein and it's cheap.

    Built,

    Thanks for your reply.

Is that protein 1gm/lbs or lgm/lbm
you are saying it is 1gm/lean body mass. I read just one more article somewhere in last one month which said 1gm/lean body mass. You are saying the same.

Please confirm if it is lbs or lbm. I think this is a good site to calculate lbm. i just used it :-)

If i am sounding too ignorant about basics here, please excuse me.

By the way, if those are your abs in in your profile pic, then I would like to borrow them on a date with my gf .. i may have another year to get something like that.. Thanks Sir

    Awaiting your reply.
    Regards
