Question on food timing
ATM I am trying to eat fairly high calories 3000-3500 per day to be bulking. However I am never really hungry until later at night (usually a few hours after my workout).
I am wondering if it is to eat say only 1000-1200 calories prior to 7:00 PM as long as I am getting something in my system every 3 hours? Then once 7 or 8 rolls around and my stomach roars is it alright for me to stuff another 2000-2500 calories in a 4 hour period before sleep? Even when I make myself eat more during the day I still get seriously hungry a few hours after my workout. So if I eat all day then listen to my stomach at night I would probably be putting in 4500 calories a day and I am not willing to put on THAT much fat during my bulk (I dont mind the slow bulk) |

You can eat ALL your food from 8PM to midnight if you wish.
I deliberately undereat during the daytime because I like to overeat at night, after I train. The only meal timing I pay attention to is pre and post workout. |

see that i have a hard time believing... it has to come down to a little more than calories in vs. calories out... there's no way your body can process a days worth of food in just a few hours as efficiently as it would with smaller meals spaced out relatively evenly through out the day...

i always heard if wasnt good to eat late because if you eat late.. you wont be active because you''ll be going to sleep soon and you cant work off the late night calories...WAIT unless calories isnt a problem for you and if not blahhhhhhhh you're one lucky dude ...

Meal Frequency and Energy Balance | BodyRecomposition - The Home of Lyle McDonald
Note that this was debunked based on a journal article published in 1997 - we've known this for a while, but it surely does take a long time to trickle down to the masses. Cheers. |

This is also in line with the old thinking that fat makes you fat and cardio makes you lose weight. Just old magazine and tv commercial crap. |

Hey Built, I'll be looking, but if you have or come across any of his follow up on the intermittent fasting please shoot it to me! I used to do 24 hour fasts, back in my more yogic days, and liked it, and liked the ideas of the benefits I had researched. I think i will hold off on any of this until I start to cut here soon. Cool to see him mention it though. |

Regarding trickling down.. where'd it come from in the first place, or more to the point where did the opposite come from?
While I'd agree your body can do amazing things and doesn't care too much about the timing, you as a person certainly do. As such I believe it is not so much about people being ignorant but more a case of such trickling wisdom being rejected based on real-world experience. For many people lots of small meals DOES work very well when it comes to appetite suppression and calorie control. However as the OP says he actually wants to eat light and then stuff himself at night, I'd agree with Built and say go for it. B. |

My advice for EVERYTHING:
Listen to your body! Try it out, see what works for you. I'm not a big believer in universal diet/exercise rules that everyone must follow...nor am I a believer that all that matters is calories in vs. calories out. |
