    Help w/protein Shakes

I just got some whey protein, and am a little confused on how and when to use it. I've been told to have some before and immediately after working out. Also to drink it with food so as to get the most out of it. Do you need to put flax or heavy cream in it? I was just planning to use skim milk, or maybe even water. What's your take?

I sometimes, well pretty frequently, throw in some peanut butter, and on occasion, a banana too. I used to do this b/c I had a generic brand of whey and it tasted like pure shite! Now I use American Whey and it tastes like friggin' candy! It's just so hard to ween myself of the pb!

Yeah I would throw in some Flax or heavy cream to my shake so it is not turned into carbohydrates, specially if you take it with just water . Before and After workout are the best times of the day to take your protein shake, but from those two the post important is after workout when you muscle hunger for food…

The only time you definately want a whey shake is immediately after your workout. Often people use a 2:1 ratio of carbs to protein. People often use dextrose as there carb. Table sugar is another choice. People use this to help shuttle the whey to your muscle quicker. Not all people do this. Some just take straight whey with water.

As far as when else you take shakes depends on your diet. It is a supplement. If you are unable to get your daily protein needs from regular normal food such as chicken, fish, then you may have to take shake. Some people take 1 shake a day other 2 others 3. It all depends on your diet.

I'd love to add some type of fruit in it (like a bananna) but think it would do more harm than good since i'm allergic. Thanx for the info. guys!
