Everyones body works differently? how so? You mean some peoples bodies need fat and some dont? And if by work, do you mean losing weight by semi-starvation? Sure, that works for anyone, and it also stresses the systems,or worse, of every person who's done it. So I'll leave you to your methods. Have you forgotten about some of the questions you've asked? Your methods are...marginal...for lack of better words.

Thanks for the perspective? I'm still relatively new to "bodybuiling" give me a year or two and I'll have a better idea of what I'm doing.

look you dont need a year or two you just need to open up and do some research and listen to the people on this forum they know what they are talking about and are glad to help , if everyone is agreeing on a subject then your best bet is to follow it, read the stickies it does not take a long time it just takes the effort

    What's your past sports history?
Hey Zeus. I played every single sport available in high school (athlete of the year every year I was in high school). I was always around 170-175 then, I was doing no lifting whatsoever, purely cardio (rugby, hockey, basketball, volleyball, hockey). I think you're right about the BF%, what is the best way to do that (money being a factor)?

So, unless you've grown a lot, your probably at a fairly low BF% unless you've lost a lot of muscle (are your tighs a lot smaller? mine were pretty big from hockey)

I don't know how to get a good test. I've seen a lot of posts on it, they recommend a submersion test, but I haven't been able to find one in Calgary, so I think it maybe fairly specialized. Calipers are second best (?) but depend on the skill of the tester (in university guys used to lean back to "tighten" their stomachs during testing to get a lower BF%, the tester never noticed...)

Don't try to electrical impedance, no one here has an faith in them. Most gyms (World Health, Golds) will have something, you might be able to get a least a caliper done during a "free trial"

islandjock, I'm in the Lower Mainland. You can get a DEXA here at Lion's Gate Hospital for about 65 bucks if you have a PT call it in.

Call the hospital in Victoria and see if Nuclear Medicine will do a DEXA for you. Specify "body composition" or you'll just get your bone density checked.

Hey Built what exactly is a DEXA?

And by PT do you mean Physio Therapist or Personal Trainer?

Ok so I did some reading on the DEXA, sounds pretty cool, I'm going to try and get it done this week. I don't have a personal trainer (can't afford it...student budget), but I'll talk to the Vic hospital and see what they can do for me. I'm also going to poke around UVIC athletics and see what they have for me.

Zeus, I don't think my thighs are smaller. I've always been pretty skinny, I was more of a speed player than a real power one. I think my BF is probably pretty low, but I don't think I have a ton of muscle because I've never lifted weights. I plan on starting lifting ASAP, I'm pretty stoked.
