    Didn't Realize I Was A Hardgainer

So I just tallied up my average daily Feb vs March to date macros. Here's a look:

    Category Feb March

    Calories 2782 3129
    Protien 196g 232g
    Carbs 165g 215g
    Fats 136g 135g

At the beginning of Feb I weighed 206. Since then, I've upped my calories on average by 350ish, and increased my protien and carbs as well. Fat about stable.

And the result of this increase in calories is...ta da...208 lbs.

What's odd about this is that prior to Feb, my weight was relatively stable at 206 on less calories and a complete joke of a diet. I would have thunk that the increase in calories and routine change (to a 5 x 5) would show more impact.

Now I'm working my butt off in the gym on a 5 x 5 routine. I've never done this so I'd think my body would respond with both strength and size. Strength yes. Size...not so much.

    Couple questions:

    1. Is this size gain normal? Or does it point to the fact I still need to pound more calories in there? And maybe the fact that I'm 40 means my body just doesn't respond like it used to. Then again, maybe a 1-2 lb increase in mass aint that bad.

    2. Is it possible that my body is kind of...rebalancing? What I mean is, is it possible that I'm "churning" while my body increases the % of muscle vs fat? So it can prepare for liftoff?

Anyways, I'm getting pretty damn rigorous about this diet thing combined with routine. I feel like I'm close and hopefully reaching a tipping point with my body.

    Thanks.

From my perspective, one week and two pounds later is within the margin of error. You need a larger 'sample size' if you will. Keep doing what your doing for another week or two, then go from there.

In my opinion you are not eating enough. I just want to tell you that I though I was a hardgainer too until I really started eating. At 160 I though around 3000 cals were enough. I was wrong I started sseeing progress at more than 4000 (ps. don;t look at my fitday for the last 2 week since my diet has been pretty fucked up since the last 2 weeks we're pretty fucked up : not sleeping at my house, not sleeping enough, not drinking enough water, too much emotions (in love with some girls that got my heartbroke...) etc.) + don't forget to eat a lot at breakfast: ex. I take 2-3 whole eggs + 4-5 eggwhites (or egg mixes) with 2 servings of oatmeal, 250ml of 2% milk with 1 & 1/2 cup of protein shake and finally if I'm still hungry a fruit...
