calories under 1600 daily, weight isn't coming off

WTF!

I have done this so many times, yet this time it isn't working. a standard 40/40/20 but around 1600 calories. The weight should be melting off.

Is my body getting revenge against me for abusing it all these years?

I am weighing my food so I know I am counting the calories correctly. My only guess is 6 mouths of zero physical activity meant serious atrophy, and maybe my muscles are coming back quickly which is off setting any overall weight lose. However, my pants aren't fitting any looser, so something is seriously different.

I am getting stronger in the gym like crazy. So it isn't all bad, but still, wtf! I should not weigh the 2 lbs less after 3 weeks while maintaining a diet of 1600 calories.

1600 calories? Dude, EAT!

Unless you have thyroid or metabolism issues I have a hard time believing your maintenance is around 2000, especially since you've done cycles in the past.

How long have you been at it at this level? Have you done a refeed or maintenance week lately?

40/40/20 is pretty lousy for cutting - you must be HUNGRY!

How long have you been cutting? What do you weigh and how lean are you?

Wondering where to start? Confused? This will get you started.

Dude, your body does weird shit when you don't exercise for over 6 months. I couldn't squat more than 135lbs ten times my first day back. I don't feel calorie deprived. I have also been jogging on my off days from the gym. I should be loosing like crazy. This is just weird.

To answer your questions, I have been cutting for 3 weeks with no progress.
I currently weigh 230 with no muscle, so I am a fat fuck at the moment.
I don't get hungry at work since the stress and fast pace of my job keeps me distracted, but as soon as I get home, I am starving to death.

My vigilance is not paying off, and it is wearing on me.

Apparently my way is not working for shit, so tell me what to do built, and I will do it without questions.

Have you ever ran a PSMF or other similar diet? They've done amazing things for me personally. You run a cycle of that to kickoff fat loss and then transition into a more moderate diet to keep it rolling.

Of course before you go running one, I would do a week at maintenance to normalize hormone levels so that you're not going into the diet handicapped.

KelJu - please never ever stop asking questions.

Your metabolism is tanking.

What I would like to see you do is try to raise your maintenance calories, SLOWLY, while slightly increasing your activity level.

Wondering where to start? Confused? This will get you started.

Your 1600 calories is far too low for a 230 lb male, and even more so with you saying you are performing exercise as well. What is your current exercise regime (days, time spent etc)

KJ, you are a big guy for only 1600 cal.
Look at it like this, to make a fire burn, you have to add fuel to the fire. In your case, it's food/calories. You are taking in less than 1g of protein per lb of bodyweight. You can't build muscle on that.
Stress and cortisol could also be playing a factor.

All right. I will restructure some things. As soon as I get a new program designed, I will post it.

Dude I'm the same weight as you right now, and eating 1900-2000/day and the weight flies off if I don't get in enough food during my refeed/cheat days. When I started getting back into it though, I was eating 2500-3000/day because I didn't want to lose weight and wanted to get back to a decent strength/LBM level though. I think this set me up perfectly for what I'm doing now, I'm in a serious deficit and it shows (I lost like 3.5lbs last week because my refeed was less than optimal so I had a 36hr refeed this weekend and I'm in line to lose the typical pound or so this week).

So yeah, like Built said. Get some food in you, and put on a bit of muscle before you start cutting seriously. Eat at around maintenance for like a few weeks, or slightly more. Maybe aim to gain a pound even, to improve your lifts and conditioning. Then drop into a deficit and the fat will melt off.

I was getting pretty discouraged over the diet issues. So, in typical KelJu fashion, I cut off my nose to spite my face. The next day at work, someone brought crispy creme donuts for everyone. I had 8 chocolate creme filled donuts. I almost puked from all the sugar and fat.

But, life is real funny sometimes, because apparently that was exactly what my body needed. Other than the 200 calorie binge, I stayed on track with my diet with the exception of upping calories by taking in more carbs and protein. I hadn't weighed since the day I posted this thread. Today at the gym, my workout was pretty incredible. I went from 3 sets of 10 of 135 on squats to 3 sets of 10 of 245 on squats in less than a week. I know its mostly muscle memory, but still that is huge.

Curious as to what kind of damage I had done to my weight lose progress, I got on the scales to find out that I had lost 3lbs after eating the donuts.

Bahahahaha, crispy creme, the miracle weight lose secret. Fuck subway, I'll be the new Jarrod, but I'm gonna be pimping crispy creme.

Yep. All those delicious carbs upregulated leptin production and replenished your glycogen stores which tells your body that it's ok to lose fat again, you're not starving to death.

If you think that's an amazing workout try doing a workout while being super compensated with glycogen. I've broken every single strength record that I had on it and that's while I'm CUTTING!

I freaking LOVE donuts. Timmy Ho's are better though.

Just sayin' ...

I'll trade you donuts for a sausage and onion pizza, how does that sound? Or some cornbread.
