The Psychology of Bodybuilding (Bigorexia)
Muscle dysmorphia - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
2 good reads here! Plenty of info for a 15 minute presentation!
I hope this helps ya Irish!![]()
The articles are too big to post on the site. They are all over 500kb. They are all done by top scholars in the field of body image. PM me so that I can send them to you. It'll make your paper an A, guaranteed!!
I am lost irish what do i got to do?![]()
well, i plan on showing some pics of various body types and what their body images might be and then showing a few of my personal contest and bulked up pics to the class.....then i'll discuss what muscle dysmorphia and bigorexia is and how it's similar to other body image disorders....probably show some stats, but hit some main bullet points......i won't be talking non-stop for the 15 minutes.....remember it's a psych class and they want interaction and want us to make it personal where we can......so contest entries is my research (i'm using members for my homework!!!)

I would make sure to contrast it with the epidemic of teenage and young adolescent girls' eating disorders. Perhaps even throw in the super skinny catwalk runway models (and how they introduced a rule to maintain a certain body fat %).
And don't forget you HAVE TO talk about steroids as a motivation for addressing this problem.
Get some extra points by bringing evolutionary psychology to explain why modern males have a desire to be big and buff.
i'll take tomorrow to review all of the info everyone has posted and make my decision on what i'm using then....one hour left to post guys!!!

When asked to draw their ideal body, the body ideal was so muscular it could only be achieved by taking the risks associated with using anabolic steroids
Thats a good Q u can ask. u can ask the audience to draw an ideal pic of what their body wants to be like.
In one study of over 1000 men, over 50% were unhappy with their bodies and 40% said they would consider chest implants in order to achieve bigger pectorals.
The dysmorphic men, the researchers concluded, exhibited significant differences from the comparison group in the following categories:
Body dissatisfaction and steroid use
Lifetime prevalence of mood, anxiety, and eating disorders
Shame and embarrassment
Social and occupational impairment
"NEVER BIG ENOUGH"
for muscle dysmorphia - Cognitive therapies, behavioral therapies, and combinations of the two are among the most prevalent means of addressing the disease, but no definitive approach has been identified.
i hope that highlights plenty of website sources and points u can address during your presentation irish. and good luck. sorry if i was a bit late for the info =P
