The Facts About Building the Perfect Booty!

I don't usually write about a specific bodypart, but I was inspired to by the recent development of companies selling booty building sneakers claiming to "help make your legs and butt look great..." The Reebok "EasyTone" sneaker probably being the best known, but there are others. The Reebok version claiming to be based on "balance ball technology" and* "tones your butt up to 28% more just by walking." I'm sure many of you have seen the commercial, but if not, here it is:

 YouTube Video

Now before I even continue on about this booty shaping shoe, I just have to take a moment to rant a bit about this specific commercial. If you are going sell a shoe that (supposedly...)* shapes up your gluteus maximus, shouldn't you use a model that has one?! Holy Flat Backsides Batman! This gal has virtually no butt. Now I'm not hating on her; she's a very pretty girl - and* for a typical TV model type - in great shape, but she has no ass! I mean really, is that the behind most women really want today? Or put more succinctly, is that what the general non-athletic public* considers* a well developed booty?!

I see that commercial on TV* and I want her to ditch those goofy sneakers and find the nearest squat rack! So back to reality: if you want a well developed shapely athletic butt and legs, no pair of sneakers is going to give it to you. Like any muscle, you will have to develop it the old fashioned way via exercises such as squats, lunges, split squats, and straight leg deadlifts.

As with any bodypart, some are more genetically gifted in that area then others, but make no mistake, anyone can develop a firm well shaped booty with the right choice of exercises, consistency, and other factors (i.e., good nutrition so said booty is not just made of muscle blurring blubber!).

Sorry, no sneaker is gonna do that for you...What's a great booty look like as a result of proper training, nutrition, and consistency? Here's an oldie but goodie video of well known fitness/figure model Monica Brant doing Straight leg deadlifts, and to paraphrase the classic line from the 80's movie Crocodile Dundee, "That's not an ass.. now THAT's an ass!"
1.) “It's hard to puke doing curls.” – Dave Tate

2.) “It's a great excuse to wear a big ass belt that makes you look less fat.” - Dave Tate

3.) “I love hearing ‘head up’ and it NOT being from a teacher.” – Dave Tate

4.) “Bashing your head on the bar is totally okay.” – Dave Tate

5.) “Internal rage.” – Dave Tate

6.) “You can gear whore up more than any other lift.” – Dave Tate

7.) “Very few movements require the same degree of dedication, desire and determination as heavy squats. Squats are more than a physical strength builder and may be the only movement that builds a person’s character. Life is about standing up AFTER a heavy load takes you down.” – Dave Tate

8.) “Light squats need to be treated as though they are heavy and heavy squats as if they are light.” – Dave Tate

9.) “No other exercise requires the same degree of total body tightness as the squat.” – Dave Tate

10.) “Any movement that uses cues ‘head up’ and ‘chest up’ is providing more positive reinforcement in ONE workout than most people get in a month.” – Dave Tate

11.) “ ‘Tweeds’ never squat.” – Dave Tate

12.) “One of the few lifts that can cause blood, sweat and tears to leave the body at the same time - without you knowing.” – Dave Tate

13.) “Increases bone density.” – Dave Tate

14.) “I can’t stand to see a rack alone.” – Dave Tate

15.) “ ‘Scrop’ – nothing better!” – Dave Tate

16.) “Because you told me to!” – Chris Bell

17.) “Great assistance work for the deadlift.” – Jeff

18.) "There is simply no other exercise (and certainly no machine) that produces the level of central nervous system activity, improved balance and coordination, skeletal loading and bone density enhancement, muscular stimulation and growth, connective tissue stress and strength, psychological demand and toughness, and overall systemic conditioning than the correctly performed full squat." –Mark Rippetoe

19.) “After breaking my ankle twice and destroying my knee wrestling, my doctor said I shouldn't squat or deadlift anymore. That was 5 years ago. No one tells me I can't.” – Roman

20.) “To prevent other people from doing curls in the squat rack.” – Nick

21.) “There's nothing like throwing 300+ pounds on my back at 5AM, right?” – Sam

22.) “It’s sadomasochism in its finest. The endorphins released by not getting crushed by a weight and completing the lift is immense. I also like the joy of being sore after a great session, as well as the complete stress release it has. After a hard squat session, I can’t be stressed because I don’t have enough energy.” – Curtis

23.) “For performance and the fact it makes me feel strong(er)!!!” - Luka

24.) “I wouldn't ask the kids I coach to do something I wouldn't do myself. Plus, they cure cancer.” – Chad

25.) “Because I can. Ok, so I also kind of like hearing the guys whisper ‘damn’ under their breath when they watch.” – Charlotte

26.) “They cure cancer. AND they make you one STRONG old lady pushing 60!!” – Elaine

27.) “I love the belt taking a few inches off my waist. No need for cardio!” – Curtis

28.) “If you don’t squat, you’re officially an arsehole!” – Sean

29.) “The squat just builds overall body power... no exercise like it.” – John

30.) “Nothing else gives that same sense of being a F*CKING man.” – Tone

31.) “If you go heavy enough you can see twinkling lights all year round instead of just waiting for Christmas.” – Steve

32.) “Because if I don't, I get cranky.” –Ben

33.) “I like breaking capillaries and blowing blood vessels in my eyes just so people look at me like I’m crazy.” – Peter

34.) “I like to see just how far I can push my body.” – Mike

35.) “I'm addicted to squatting. I don't even like it.” – Dan

36.) “They make me happy. And they give me something to look forward to all day on Mondays.” – Josh

37.) “They make my ass look good.” – Jane

38.) “They cure EVERYTHING!” – Joel

39.) “The only thing that feels better than squats are deadlifts, and because it makes me feel good for ages afterwards.” – Brian

40.) “I enjoy the pain and the misery of the hard work that it requires.” – Ken

41.) “To prove that it can be done even though I have a bad back, bad knee and messed up shoulder.” – Jim

42.) “Easy to do, long time to master.” – Timothy

43.) “It is HARD and I think it takes years off of your life when you use bands.” – John

44.) “It is great way to utilize the curling rack... Oh, and it is the GREATEST LIFT OF ALL TIME!” – Jerome

45.) “It’s better than a leg press.” – Mike

46.) “What else would I do on Sundays?” – Bill

47.) “Because cowards won't.” – Larry

48.) “More muscular bulk equals more muscular power. Squats are the best exercise to gain muscular weight, so squats are the most important lift.” – Todd

49.) “Squats build back strength contributing to other lifts. Even a bench press person can benefit the bench through squatting. I like the squat because it has a rebound motion making it different from the one-way pull-from-a-dead-stop of the deadlift.” – Hans

50.) “It makes me uncontrollably slap ignorant people… the whole day.” - Larry
Was Tila on tequila? Or just in need of serious help?
Days after filing a $1.5 million lawsuit against her ex-boyfriend, NFL star Shawne Merriman, for battery and false imprisonment, reality show star Tila Tequila had a bizarre, off-the-wall meltdown Thursday on her live Ustream page.
According to TMZ.com, the petite model stripped naked, danced around in the nude and rambled on about a variety of subjects. Among those topics was Merriman, who she claims choked, shoved and humiliated her for her bisexuality during a heated argument in September.
At one point in the Webcast that reportedly lasted several hours, Tequila said that "People call me an attention whore ... or whatever ... but excuse me, I'm a grown a-- woman and I'm confident in myself ... I think a woman's body is a beautiful thing ... that's why I'm a lesbian ... I was born naked ... anybody who is against that is gay and in denial."
She reportedly also called Merriman, a linebacker for the San Diego Chargers, a "woman beater" and accused him of drug use.
Tequila, who previously starred on MTV's bisexual dating show "A Shot of Love with Tila Tequila," also said, "I am an angel ... because I am here to save the world with my army."
The model's lawyer told TMZ that the incident with Merriman may have "pushed her over the edge," and that he would be getting his client "help."
I would list my current exercise program, but I believe in the shock principle so my routine and reps change about every 2 weeks. I just wondered if anyone had a routine for these areas that have produced really good gains. Thanks for any help. I am 54, 5'8" and about 150-155 lbs

FAA Computer Problem Causes Widespread Flight Delays

A computer glitch that caused flight cancellations and delays across the U.S. Thursday has been resolved, the Federal Aviation Administration said.

The problem involved the FAA computer systems in Salt Lake City and Atlanta that handle automated flight plans, forcing air-traffic controllers to revert to the much more time-consuming approach of entering flight plans by hand.

That produced a "domino effect" delaying flights around the country, the National Air Traffic Controllers Association said.

Many of the nation's airports weren't encountering departure delays, according to the FAA air-traffic system command center Web site. But major delays were reported in Washington, New York, Philadelphia and Chicago.

At Washington's Dulles International Airport, flights destined for New York's LaGuardia Airport were averaging delays of one hour and 20 minutes. Traffic bound for Philadelphia from Dulles was running more than two hours behind. The FAA said gate hold and taxi delays at Dulles were averaging more than one and a half hours, and are lengthening.

FAA spokesperson Paul Takemoto said the problem started between 5:15 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. EST.

Delays began on the East Coast and rippled out to the west. The problem didn't affect radar coverage or communications with planes in the air, the FAA said. The air traffic controllers union, however, said the FAA systems that provide information on weather and wind speeds at airports weren't functioning.

As of mid-morning, the delays appeared to be waning, based on a check of some major airports, according to FlightStats.com. The Web site, which captures FAA flight data, indicated that departures from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport were delayed by 20 to 60 minutes. But departures scheduled for later in the day were generally showing to be on time.

"The airport is working to minimize the impact on customers by bringing in additional staff and ensuring that all facilities are operational and fully maintained," a statement from Hartsfield-Jackson officials said.

Departures from John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York were indicated running at more than an hour behind schedule for a handful of flights, according to FlightStats.com. But this afternoon, they show on time. Philadelphia International Airport showed delays of 15 to 30 minutes on some flights scheduled to depart soon, but departures scheduled for later also looked to be on time.

US Airways Group Inc. said the FAA's problems created a systemwide slowdown for its planes, with some being delayed up to 30 minutes. The airline said it brought additional staffers to its operations center in Pittsburgh to cope with the slower, manual processing of flight information.

American Airlines, the second-largest U.S. airline by traffic behind Delta Air Lines and unit of AMR Corp., said the FAA has indicated it has fixed or is close to fixing the main automated flight-plan system. Meanwhile, the process of entering plans manually is flowing better now, spokesman Tim Smith said.

"It's going much more smoothly now, so the system is flowing," Mr. Smith said. "It took a little while to get them up to speed."

American had yet to cancel any flights and was seeing delays of 10 to 20 minutes, though some stretched to an hour, Mr. Smith said. "We've had worse days driven by weather," he said. "This is perhaps broader but not as extreme."

Atlanta-based Delta Air Lines Inc., the largest U.S. airline by traffic, said it was experiencing some delays but continued to dispatch flights and was assessing a situation that remained fluid.

An AirTran spokesman said as of 8 a.m. EST Thursday the airline had canceled 22 flight across the U.S. He said the cancellations were mainly at their Atlanta hub, but flights were affected nationwide.

The FAA system is a major, cutting-edge program full of redundancies that are designed to keep it from going down. As such, the problem is quite different from localized radio communication or computer problems the FAA suffers from time to time.

Passengers are being asked to check the status of their flights online before going to airports.

When popping a pill doesn’t work, try dropping an F-bomb.

Like the music of Celine Dion, swearing is a noisy phenomenon some people enjoy more than others. Military folks and college students have a well-earned reputation for salty language, but even the most mild-mouthed saint might have trouble resisting a “Jesus Christ!” or “Shit!” on occasion.
Well, it turns out a potty mouth does more than earn your conversations an R rating: it actually relieves pain, according to a new study by Richard Stephens, John Atkins, and Andrew Kingston of Keele University in the UK. But that’s not all: you’d never know it from what your mom told you, but there are many positive, beneficial aspects of swearing, including harmless venting and social bonding (not to mention reams of adult comedy). Bad language does a lot of good.
In Stephens’ study, college students were asked to list “five words you might use after hitting yourself on the thumb with a hammer” (they came up with fuck, shit, bugger, bastard, bollocks, etc.) and “five words to describe a table” (such as brown, flat, and hard). If there was a swear word on the first list, they would repeat that word at a steady rhythm and volume (no yelling allowed) while one hand was submerged in cold water. The same procedure was then followed with the non-filthy word.
Going into the study, the researchers believed that swearing was actually a type of pain-related catastrophising—in other words, a “maladaptive response to pain” that made things like horrible agony worse, not better. But Stephens and company found that “…repeating a swear word, compared with repeating a neutral word, allowed participants to hold their hands in ice cold water for 40 seconds longer (on average), they perceived less pain on a pain perception scale (questionnaire) and they had a larger heart rate increase. Because we saw an increase in heart rate we think that people had an emotional reaction to swearing (indicated by the increase in heart rate), bringing about the fight or flight response, which is known to increase pain tolerance (make people more able to withstand pain).” In a nutshell, swearing has an analgesic, pain-lessening effect that could give Ibuprofen a run for its money, probably by working us into an aggressive, heightened state.
But if pain relief isn’t enough to make you start “working blue” in your workplace and at family picnics, consider the work of Timothy Jay, Professor of Psychology at Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, who has repeatedly found that “…swearing is a common conversational practice resulting in no obvious harm.” His work makes clear that social cohesion, emotional satisfaction, and humor are among the top good things about bad words. By email, I asked what else swearing accomplished, and Jay made a rare defense of what would normally be considered fighting words: “Angry swearing can help the speaker change the listener’s behavior—yelling at someone who did something wrong—‘you fucking idiot, you made an illegal left turn, cutting me off.’ Much of swearing is like this, a corrective measure, but usually between people who know each other.” That sounds considerably less positive than a cookie or medal of honor, but if you agree that a sharp word is less damaging than a sharp trident, I think you see Jay’s point.
I wondered whether innocent exclamations like “By the hammer of Thor!” and Battlestar Galactica’s frak have the same beneficial effects as taboo language, but Fay emphatically said, “NO. Euphemisms exist because they don’t do what the more offensive words do…. We already have a rich vocab and the inventions have to compete for space, which they don’t very well, historically speaking. The seven dirty words have been around for centuries.” Stephens agreed, saying that “…I doubt they (pain-sufferers) would have the same emotional reaction to frak, although because frak is somewhat similar to fuck, maybe there would be a lesser effect. That remains to be seen.”
Frak is the obscenity of choice for a fictional military, a la the filth-mouthedness of the real armed forces. Stephens’ work makes me wonder if the pain of being a soldier—including physical pain, mental anguish, moral quagmires, and problems I can’t even conceive of—might be one reason for all the naughty talk. Stephens said, “…it fits with our theory that people can self-regulate their own emotional state by swearing—think of a sports team coach using four letter words in a team talk about getting at the opposing team). On the other hand, if it is the shock value of the words that produces the effect then one would expect overuse of swear words to lessen the effect. Investigating this would make a great follow-up study.”
Yes, it would. Sigh. You know, it kind of hurts to leave such a fascinating topic after just one column. At least I know how to relieve the pain…
I love muscle memory. Trained hard in my teens and early twenties, but work and family got in the way of the iron. This time around I am on spot with my diet, which I believe to be just as important as my training. Looking to put on another 20lbs of solid muscle in the next 6 months.

Hey everybody, finally posting for the first time. Got some pretty bad gyno, n decided to go to the endo doc. My stats are as follows. 29 yrs old, 218lbs, 5ft 9, bf of approx 12%. As a young and stupid kid I payed no attention to what I was doing with the AA's I've gotten. Now I am paying the price, never worried about pct, and more was always better. So now my levels are all backwards and are as follows... DHEA- 97 norm(280-640ug/dl)
Estradiol 37 norm(0-53pg/mL), Test Serum 198 L norm(241-827 ng/dl), and free test is 8.4 L norm (9.3-26.5 pg/mL.) These were AM tests too which scared the crap outa me. My last cycle was over 10 mos. ago and was my homemade finaplix-h, @ approx. 78mg eod for 6 weeks, and 200test enantate every 5 days. I have learned to take it easy as I am not body builder, just a fireman who likes lookin good. My training is religous and diet is + or minus 250 calories a day, 1/2 cardio ed. So started feelin like garbage and havin alotta trouble keepin the bf down. Doc started me today on 10mg 2times a day tamox., but I wana know if this is gna drop my estrogen levels enough to start gettin gains again? Will my free test go up?
My girl is a lil younger than me n even she's been noticing changes in my body, n my mood. Is there anything natural tribulus, or anything that works to get me back to the high-normal range? Or am I just stuck with needing the bean for the rest of my life??? I would truly appreciate any feedback at all. Thanks D.

Hey guys,

Ive been working out for about 2 years now and I'm about to turn 18. I would like to know what the best supplements are that i could take that would make me have significant gains in weight and size/strength.

i have experimented somewhat with muscle milk, whey, force factor, things like that but none of them really made me see real gains and I'm in the gym close to 5 or 6 times a week. I also play hockey at least twice a week on top of that.

i weigh about 155 right now and would like to put on at least 10 to 15 pounds of muscle. (more if possible)

i would rather not use prohormone/roids/creatine if possible.

and what food should i eat to be gaining a lot of weight? and not fat (so dont say ice cream and pizza)

thanks!

The mystery surrounding Brock Lesnar's illness has been cleared up a bit. The UFC heavyweight champion is suffering from a bacterial infection in his intestinal tract, though it looks like he may be released from the hospital soon.

"He's in stable condition and should be released soon," UFC president Dana White said.

White said he spoke with Lesnar on Monday, but he wouldn't reveal which hospital Lesnar was currently being treated at because he wanted to protect his privacy.

White also said he is encouraging Lesnar to check into the renowned Mayo Clinic in Minnesota for further treatment, but still doesn't know if Lesnar will fight again.

"It depends on how serious this is," White said.

White relayed Lesnar's thanks to all his fans for their support as the champ tries to battle through this infection. "He's never in good spirits and he's not in good spirits now," White said.

As reported earlier, Lesnar's possible title defense against Shane Carwin at UFC 108 on Jan. 2 has been postponed indefinitely while Lesnar recovers.

Supplement Regulation In Europe

Supplement Regulation In Europe

In the U.S. many manufacturers of supplements have learned to live with the continually increased supplement regulations and FDA enforcement. However, in Europe manufacturers are concerned that many of the 4,000 or so health claims being made for supplements may be rejected by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), because it requires these to be truthful and not misleading! Wow, what a concept!

80% Of Marketing Claims Were Not Approved

Scientific substantiation of marketing claims is at the heart of a real controversy for the dietary supplement industry in Europe.

“The situation is very complex and difficult,” notes Patrick Coppens. The European nutrition and health claims legislation was passed in 2006, but the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) only began handing down decisions in 2009. “The standards for scientific substantiation are very high, and there are concerns that existing claims for food and food supplements will be found not to have proper scientific justification,” Coppens explains.

Of the initial evaluations completed, nearly 80% were not approved. The EFSA planned to review nearly 1,500 claims by the end of November 2009, but it has already sent back about 2,700 for further clarification! Many supplement manufacturers have indicated there is great confusion over what exactly is needed in the way of scientific data to support claims.

“It is definitely a quagmire … a lot of clarity is still needed.” says Daniel Fabricant, vice president of scientific and regulatory affairs at the Natural Products Association.

What Is A Quagmire?

Okay, if you’re as confused as I was when I read that strange word Mr. Fabricant used in his quote, then read this section.

Wikipeadia defines a quagmire as: “A type of wetland. It may also refer to a predicament or situation from which it is difficult to extricate oneself.”

Usage Levels For Vitamins & Minerals In Europe

Standard guidelines on the usage-level for vitamins and minerals is needed desperately as a great deal of variance exists amongst the many European countries. A proposal containing recommended maximum levels is expected in the near future but getting each country to agree on the levels of each will be very difficult.

Hey everyone (long read, but i really need some help!),

Its been a long time since i posted or even consistently lurked here lol. Back in 2003 i used to read to board daily and from the knowledge i gained here was able to lose 80lbs going from 265 down to 185. After that multiple job changes and laziness contributed to shooting me back up to 240.

In 2006 lost a few pounds after going to the gym for a while and was back at 220lbs. This is when my back issue started. After a spinning class i had the bright idea to deadlift. As i was more then half way through a rep i felt what seemed like a firework in my lower back/upper butt on the right side. Tried to ice it, tried a chiro, and neither helped. Finally i found a chiro that was more sports specific and did ART. He got me to the point where i didnt have daily pain. But 3x a week at $40 got tough to shell out and i was already back into lazy mode.

So now im working on a career change that required me to be fit. I have lost 45lbs over the last 6-9 months and am down to 195lbs. Im back in the gym and can do most things without pain. But the back issue is definately still there, it flairs up at times, and its caused me to have very little flexibility in my lower body. I have been foam rolling for a few weeks and trying to stretch it, but this REALLY flairs it up.

So my question (finally!) is what i should be doing to rehab this. I will try to explain it the best i can. The pain is in my lower back / upper butt. If im bent at the waist and i try to tuck my chin to my chest i can feel a pulling/discomfort in the area. If im sitting in a chair and try to extent my legs straight out i have the same pulling / discomfort / pain. My lack of flexibility is terrible if sitting on the floor with my feet out in front of me i can not make a 90* angle to straighten my back perpendicular to the floor without forcing it and causing discomfort or pain. What i have been doing to stretching was after foam rollings sitting with my back against a wall and trying to force my legs straight out in front of me.

I would love some opinions and help from anyone on the board with knowledge here thanks!

Ray

can anyone help me or share some info plz?

i've been weight training for quite sometime and have been bulking and cutting and eating reasonably clean for then last 3 - 4 years. im currently cutting and i've come to a bit of a brick wall. i can put on the size and strenght ok but when it comes time to loose a bit of the fat i loose pretty much everything i put on.

im eating around 2200cals a day at the moment carb cycling n weight training 4 days a week with cardio about 5 days a week (bout 20min a day). i can't seem to get as lean as i want. here is a sample of a low carb day:

meal1(6:30): oats, whey protein blend, small amount of fresh fruit, 4 egg whites 1 yolk, flaxseed oil. - 42p/42c/21f

meal2(9:00): lean steak, brown rice - 51p/21c/9f

meal3(12:00): tuna, almonds - 43p/20c/25f

meal4(2:30): protein bar - 17p/4c/6f

meal5(4:30): 6egg whites 1 yolk

(train - cardio only)

meal6(6:30- 7 post workout)- protein shake - 36p/7c/3f

meal7(8:00 dinner)- chicken breast, green veg - 46p/12c/4f

before bed - flaxseed oil - 12f

thats just example of my low cab high fat day which was today. thats pretty much how clean i eat throughout cutting. im 87kg atm n looking to get leaner im probably around 10%bf. any help would be much appreciated. just want to know am i eating the right foods at the right times and am i doing things right. im hungry nearly all day when im on these diets and i don't know if i should be eating more possibly to get more energy (which is lacking a bit).

thank you

Medicine has researched the area of synthetic HGH to stave off the aging process. Several legal HGH replacement therapies have been introduced in the past. However, most of these HGH releasers were expensive. Natural HGH releasers came into existence following the presence of side-effects in some of the preceding HGH replacements. Natural HGH releasers are considered better alternatives. Today, advancement of Medicine has brought natural, non-side-effect HGH replacements, within the reach of common man.

The anti-ageing formula has tested positive for safety in more than 18,000 studies and has a safety track record of 10+ years. It is without side-effects and is used by people in over 40 countries. HGH Plus is manufactured in FDA-approved labs, and is available in a liquid form. However, be sure that you buy only authentic HGH Plus.

Its been a long time and I need your help. My overall weight went up to 266lb with a 36.9 % fat. Yes, its bad to die for. I am sad, dessapointed, frustrated in myself for letting me go soooo bad. Enough of the sadness.

I am going to put all my effort in loosing the fat and need your help. I know their are lots of diets out there but before I gained all this weight I was in shape with a weight of 175lb. How did I do this, I cant remember all the details but I remember you telling me to do the following:

Grab the total lean body mass times 10 - 13 to cut or find maintenence level. I am starting at 13 to figure this out. Since my lean body mas is 168lb i figure this will be about 2184 Calories.

then:

2 grams protein x lean body weight to figure out the total calorie intake and grams of protein to consume. This will help me not loose muscle and actually gain some while loosing fat.

1 grams per lean body weight to figure the amount of carbs to eat and figure the caloire intake.

The rest to come from fats which is very low.

Can you help with any advice, need urgent. I am starting this new diet and dont want to loose more time been sad and dessapointed with me and my life.

Thanks soo much. To avoid going back and forward please add everything you can in detail.

Thank you sooooo much in advance.
