    With the big boyz...

So seriously, for those women who go to the gym, were you nervous the first time you went over to the free weights instead of the "chick-oriented" machines?

There's these two women at my gym who do the free weights, like serious weight, too. I"m working up the nerve to go talk to them.

My training partner intimidates most of the guys working out in the weight room because she's half their size and pushes more weight than they do.

pfft, even if you dont lift big weight, dont be scared to hit the weights with the guys. Most guys are really considerate and will help women in the gym. For those that want to be assholes, screw em. Everyone started somewhere.
Hell there are some women in my gym that intimidate me!

The only time I'm ever embarrassed or nervous at the gym is when I can't reach something or if I have to make numerous adjustments of one thing or another because of my height. I'm a little on the short side....

I have a chick training partner who is an FBI agent...she intimidates me. Im scared of her! She's a 5'2" badass and can literally kick my ass. First time she came into the gym to signup she made do a doubletake. Still does. People look at her like she's a modern miracle of science.

The amount of weight you use is completely irrelvent, what matters is that you're there and you're serious. When people see that they respect you. Go workout with whatever freeweights suit your purposes and don't let anybody intimidate you.
Rules? You mean we have RULES for that???

My bet is that if you go introduce yourself & talk to them, they'll be happy to let you in on the little 'free weights secret' -- The stuff is there to lift! If you want to learn, and are serious, anyone who asks me questions in the gym I will happily take the time to show them whatever they need to know. Start with what you know and ask if they can spot you or critique your form, or whatever you need to get them engaged and show that you're serious.

Do yourself a favor tho.. don't pick up a 5 lb weight and do every possible exercise you can think of with it in one session. Work muscle groups or a reasonable combination of upper body muscle groups on one day, etc. Usually the first thing you see women do is exactly this- get a set of 5-10 lb DBs, and then do bi curls, tri extensions, OH extensions, lunges, side bends, every damn thing you can think of so they dont' have to swap out DBs or move to a different location in the gym.

main reason why my wife won't use free weights or even most machines unless I'm around...she usually can't adjust the seats

    Nervous, no.

Shy - you betcha! I had a 48" ass and I wanted to be able to put my back against the wall when I did deads - only the walls all had mirrors! I still remember looking for a place to hide. LOL! I think there was this one Black guy in there who was practically crying.

I swear I could hear Sir Mixalot in my head whenever I did Romanians.

I have nothing but the utmost respect for the women in the free weights area! Shows they have determination and dedication. I don't care what shape your in, women in the free weights is hot! It actually really bothers me when I see women come in, hit the cardio machines for 45min then walk out.
