I have but it hasnt been to my face...
I got hate mail on a dating site a few times...
Once I went to their profiles...I saw why they were bashing me....I was bigger and looked better...smile
So I'm curious after the 54-year-old thread... how many of the women bbs out there have heard negative comments about how they look? There's always someone who thinks muscular chicks aren't "girly" or "feminine."

They are just ignorant and get off attempting to make others feel bad
Jealousy brings out the evil in people.
There is a semi related ish post in gossip here:
http://www.ironmagazineforums.com/bo...-new-post.html
While obvious hurtful comments are wrong, the women who use steroids excessively and have a lot of muscle mass DO seem less girly and feminine to men, that is just reality. It would be seriously foolish and ignorant to say that they do not for the sake of political correctness. There is a huge difference in natural body building compared to BB with steroid use. While I find it repulsive in men, it stands out with women more because it is so unnatural and unnattractive. Women do not naturally produce such high levels of testosterone, and when it is overdone it can be seriously unappealing and most of the time, disgusting.
The two women in the picture are both BBers, the one on the left is natural and the right takes steroids. There are many beautiful women, including people on this board like Msguns, sally and Built that are serious about weight training and look fantastic. But when female BB's go overboard it is not pleasing at all to anyone outside the bbing community. Natural body building is so much more aesthetically pleasing, to both men and women, and is healthier.
So please, do not chalk it up to men being haters, or rude, or assholes just because they are truthful. If someone IS an asshole, then that is a different story.

ArnoldsProtege, you are quite right when you say we like what we like.
I've been skinny. I hated it. Some loved it, but others trashed me because I had no boobs.
I've been fat. I got trashed for being fat by some; others loved it for the same reason others hated it: because I was soft. It bugged me that I got shit on for being fat, but until I figured out how to diet without starving, I consoled myself with the fact that I'm an amazing cook. I really am, too. I love my cooking. And given the choice between skinny and fat, I at least felt sexy when I was fat. I never felt sexy skinny, but that's me.
I started lifting and gradually became more muscular.
I love me this way.
You see my point? You have to please yourself.
There will always be those who love you and those who hate you for exactly the same reasons. I'm sure there are men and women who now think I'm too muscular. I know there are men and women who think I need more muscle. I often get comments, some bad but mostly good, on my physique, my conditioning, and my strength.
The ones who dig it, great, that's nice, glad to give you eye-candy. The ones who don't, no problem, I didn't do it for you, so I'm not about to get bent out of shape because of your comments.
It's really all about me. I really am that self-centred.

Quite right Built, I am a fan of subjectivity as a world view. The best part about it is that no matter what, you can never be wrongI have not seen any of your recent pics, save the ones on your blog, but from what I saw you are in great shape and are still very feminine and, well, hot!
The Greeks have a saying; Everything in moderation, nothing in excess. There are obvious caveats, as an ittty bittty puff of crack can fuck you right up and have you stealing your moms tv for crack money in a matter of days, but it is mostly true. Even water, the most basic and vital substance to us meandering mammals, can be fatal if drank in excess : Too High a Price for a Wii - The Lede Blog - NYTimes.com.
Such reasoning applies to bodybuilding, methinks.

rambling thoughts for the day
I find it fascinating that when I was the chubby shy kid, completely uncomfortable in my own skin until I was 30, I always got this "Oh, its ok. You're still pretty". But when I finally figured out how to find myself and get control of my body, all of a sudden its a big fucking deal. My parents really hate it. But I finally fell comfortable in my own skin.
I don't know how you reconcile that - I can't. I still have a complex about it. I think its more important to be comfortable w/ yourself than to make other people comfortable w/ you. I think if you don't like something, no one is making you look at it. I think there's something to be said for intelligent choices in what you do, but they are your choices. (I.e. be personally responsible.)
I think its annoying as fuck that everything women do is judged first on their fuckability than on anything else, but I doubt I can change that. Women's physique is full of ironies like that, but we all still pursue it.
What I can do is make sure anyone who asks me, I can help them find a way to like themselves better. I think it is desperately important for women to be strong in themselves first and foremost. The gym is a good way to start - no one said you have to "get big" or any of that shit. Just learn how your body & your metabolism work. Don't look for quicky solutions and don't have ridiculous expectations. Those are all ways to give up your power and forever be a victim.

Bump that!!
Hi all, I've been away since I joined. .
This is a fabulous topic to explore as I feel most women (including myself) have or had huge hang ups on appearance/sexuality at one point or another.
Some think it is our bodies that build muscle but, it is really just as much our minds. Just as it is our minds that create self doubt and perception of success or failure in any situation. I've noticed when someone's mind is right and they are happy being who they are it shines through any physical attribute, good or bad. Likewise, they are less likely to be quick to judge others.
It has taken me so long to enjoy who I am. On season, off season- pregnant. It's not based on my body it's based on loving my life and the choices I make.
Truth is, you can't control what others think of you. You do have the power to control your attitude towards a situation and how you feel about yourself. To me- this is far more a milestone than any trophy. (although, I wouldn't mind the trophy. . .lol)
Hate me or love me. . . I just do me! Regardless of society's current ideal of femininity, I'll still be @the gym tomorrow trying to get bigger, because I enjoy it.

i have dated woman bbers in the past , i was in my early 20s i had no problems with it and they were very big bbers. but my wife is small, dont even like going to gym. but iam not against it i think its sexy on a woman. imo.

Who gives a damn what anyone else thinks about how you look. Live for yourself and no one else. Your opinion is the only one that matters. If you feel good about yourself, that is all you need.
Saying "I don't care what others think" and actually not caring are two different things. When someone compliments your appearance, you feel happy, and when they say look like you've put on a few, you feel a little crumby.
Also, adding "imho" at the end of any post can get you off the hook for almost anything. It's just an honest opinion, man.
I can only hope that when you grow up you will understand, IMHO.
Commenting about someones appearance is rude. Whether they be fat, skinny, muscular, dark, pale, etc etc etc.
Everyone will find certain things attractive and other things not so much subjective to their own internal mechanisms. Sharing those opinions is sort of a can of worms.
First cycle log DOOM!http://www.ironmagazineforums.com/an...cycle-log.html
Yeah, better to talk behind their backs IMHO. its a victimless crime.

Everybody has something physically about them they can be complimented on. Complimenting someone about nearly anything can really make their day and quite possibly change their life. It sounds silly until you realize the amount of cruelty we may dish out without thinking can push someone over the edge so they might do something self-destructive.
