5 ways of ruining your skin

Just some interesting issues at hand:

Just when us gals in the beauty department get all cocky and think we have our skin-beautifying routines all figured out (sunscreen every day, the right products for our skin type, eating plenty of antioxidant-rich foods, etc.), some smartypants dermatologist comes along and dishes out a bunch of new info to consider. We recently chatted with Dr. Dennis Gross (who is a constant stream of amazing skincare advice, BTW), and he opened my eyes to these five practices that could negatively affect your skin.

    1. Outdated glasses/contact lens prescription:
Anything that makes you squint — like reading or working in a poorly lit room, or not updating your contact lens prescription — leads to more fine lines and wrinkles around the eye area. Get thee to an eye doctor, stat!

    2. Steam rooms: We all love a good detoxifying sesh in a steam room or sauna, but Dr. Gross says to limit your exposure to these extreme-heat bad boys because they decompose skin's elastin and collagen. Eeeeek

    3. Running (or any high-impact exercise): "While such exercise may benefit our hearts, it can cause the fat pads to slide south, and collagen and elastin to break down. If you enjoy running, try walking," explains Dr. Gross. OMG — remember on Ally McBeal when Jane Krakowski's character invented the face bra for jogging? It was for this!

    4. Not sleeping: Okay, it's not news that pulling an all-nighter makes your skin look like crud the next day, but did you know that chronic sleep deprivation leads to long-term skin probs? "Lack of sleep can be so stressful that it actually causes our bodies, including our skin, to generate free radicals," says Dr. Gross. More free radicals mean you look older, faster.

    5. Tap water: Chlorine in tap water can strip the natural oils from skin and cause dryness and irritation, especially in the winter when there is less humidity in the air to balance it out. I can vouch for that — I bought a new showerhead with a built-in water filter and have noticed fewer dry patches on my legs.

Obviously, if running is your passion then no one is suggesting you give it up. But maybe a trip to the eye doctor is in order, and get your sleep issues under control, why dontcha?

I myself am baffled, for the blog is by a gal named Marie. So, why they used a plural for the pronoun is beyond me.

Still like the facts, as so pointed out, but with so much in the means of exercise, or things we find that are to improve our bodies... you would figure our Nation(s) would get together and add some improvements in our food, drink and life.

This being instead of making less known and available, such in the past with our current health issues, (especially, obesity).
Comparison, saccrin taken off the shelves because of cancer causing agents, but then add some sodium and its in every toothpaste. FDA here in America, I wonder if they truly don't take bribes. (back then)

You're neglecting such a major part of skin care though: your diet.

I can't speak for others, but I know from personal experience that eating carbs more than once in a blue moon will make my skin break out. Took me a long while to realize that - it was only when running keto and stuff cleared up that I went "Hey what the..."

Drinking lots of water will help skin elasticity from what I've heard, and lots of veggies will help as well.

I had the same thing happen to me when I did Atkins. Low carbing with the addition of all those healthy fats really helped.

caffeine also helps destroy your skin texture. Tea and smoking are the worst things for human skin.

Anthony Nelson: yes, I have heard this. I am currently reading a book on Perimenopause, and it is teaching so much with what happens for women that are in the 30's and 40's. It is indeed very interesting.

I was learning about the issues of "Smartlipo" and how it has the ability to bring up the collagen production in the body, then with also the process of lipo as well. It is indeed interesting! I think, oily or fried foods adds to the mess with women and skin issues.

The best product I've ever used for my skin is Shu Umuera Cleansing Oil.

I've always had oily skin and all the OTC soap cleansers and all of that have really only dried out my skin more. The cleansing oil works w/ the oil in my skin and no drying. I've had zero dryness and no acne. First time in my life.

Sleep deprivation may be why my skin looks so bad. Every so often I get the "raccoon mask" around my eyes...I am not talking dark circles. It is literally a raccon mask. It really shows up if I am tired or stressed.
I tried talking to docs about it and they dont know why. Much of the time it is not shown when I go to see the docs.
I wish I knew what was causing it for sure--could be something going on with kidneys or liver.

The problem isn't the impact, it's probably the bouncing, like when our body freefalls to the ground, the foot stops but the skin keeps going until it is stopped by its own attachments.

I think 'jogging' would be more of a problem than running though. Proper sprinting form has a forward lean with minimized up/down whereas jogging is almost like jumping rope where you exaggerate leaving the ground rather than forward propulsion.

Saying 'try walking' sounds really stupid though, it's not the same at all. If people want to minimize impact they could just go uphill.

I don't agree with the running or high-impact exercise.

The only reason in my opinion that this occurs, is because most people who do excessive running have the "jogger's body" which has little muscle, and is more than likely malnourished.

If your goal is fat loss, you shouldn't be running for an hour a day on a treadmill anyways...

I do a bout of HIIT, followed by 30 - 45 minutes of moderate intensity cardio twice weekly, and that is sufficient for me and has actually helped tighten my skin.

    Just my opinion...

I have a cleansing oil from DHC which is a company based in Japan and has tons of products, in fact one that is so great called Velvet Skin Coat, it is alike air brushing your face or skin so it looks like it is flawless. I've inquired at the counters at Macy's and others with the likes of French cosmetics, only to find their creams, but not of a thin film substance that is alike perlane in a sense...to fill in the lines and make a wonder in difference with texture and feel of the skin.

Now, back to the "OIL CLEANSER" I break out with oil cleansers because of my T zone skin. But thank you so much for thinking of me and this topic Sassy and all the rest that have been so nice to contribute to it.

Both of us, guys and girls all want great skin. Even though most of the time we deny it guys. Excel Skin Cares products are excellent with their Peptides. Pure B-5 and Renewal Complex. Check out their stretch mark cream too if You have them and hate it.

Go through their Amazon store for the lower buy with free shipping.
