    Face peels

Has anyone had a face peel? If so, do you recommend them?
I have slight acne scaring from being bad to my skin from squeezing. I was wondering if peels would help this or should I go for something more drastic such as laser resurfacing? I do not wear a lot of face makeup, so by looking at me, you really wouldn't notice, but to me, I can see where I have damaged my skin.
    Any thoughts or suggestions?

    Thanks

I've had laser work done; never had a peel but my niece did and it was great for her because her skin is too dark to laser safely.

Is there a big price difference? Laser is faster recovery, if that makes a difference. Same day.

Do you feel the laser helped? What did you have it done for if I may ask?
I just got a peel on Friday. Sat. I was a little flaky, Sun. really flaky and my face was pretty sore. I feel pretty good today. I just want to get the best bang for my buck. I paid $80 including tip. Are you happy with the results from your laser treatment? Did you have or need to have more then one?
    Thank you for the advice

Chemical Peels vs. Laser Skin Resurfacing

The benefits and drawbacks of laser skin resurfacing vs. chemical peels are slightly more difficult to ascertain, due to the relatively new nature of the laser resurfacing procedure. However, many doctors claim that the improvement to patients’ skin after laser skin resurfacing is essentially equivalent to that seen with chemical peels and microdermabrasion. Lasers do allow doctors to target specific flaws and imperfections with much more precision than chemical peels.

My main focus is redness from when I treated precancerous lesions with topical chemotherapy, and from sun damage so for this, yes, lasers are the way to go. Actually, I think it's IPL - I'm getting another one done Friday so I'll write down the type and get back to you.

WOW, I am sorry to hear that. Do you have to get checked often? Rob's dad has skin cancer, he gets checked and stuff cut off of himself quiet often. Doesn't sound fun at all

I'm pale. We mustn't tan - ever. I'm paying for my sunburned childhood.

So far it was actinic keratosis. No melanoma yet. Fingers crossed.

I've had laser resurfacing done and there is pain and down time. My girlfriend has had a full face and neck done and that was with a complete facial chemical peel, whereas she was out of sight for well over a week.

Both get rid of lines but I think...the chemical peel, maybe better for it can do the whole face; whereas the laser, I believe you are limited with areas with the laser. Can't remember, but know there is down time and pain with both.

Neither v-bean nor IPL caused any pain or redness that lasted more than an hour or two. If you've got any pitting, look at Juvederm. Works great on lips and deeper lines, too - but I'll warn you, your lips will feel like you got sucker-punched in the mouth, followed by a bit of a sunburn. Lasts a few days, then you're fine. Lines just look a little puffed up for a few days, plus the injection marks. Easy to cover with makeup, and they heal fast.

I hear that. Fingers crossed. I am very pale as well. I had tons of childhood skin damage as well. So far things are pretty good. I try to get checked regularly. Sad thing is, Rob and I tan often. UV only, but never the less. We vacation in Mexico, so we try our best to blend in. With my blond hair, I stick out like a sore thumb, but Rob looks Mexican, so it all works out

Why do you bother anymore? I stay pale year round. I like it. And my skin still looks pretty. I blame tanning beds for my worst skin damage.

We only tan twice per week and we use UV only beds that only allow you to go in 12 minutes max, I don't think 24 minutes per week in the sun is going to cause skin damage.

Those beds are nowhere NEAR as safe as the industry would tell you. There's actually a law here in BC to keep minors from using them. My personal opinion is that they're more dangerous than natural sunlight. Read the peer-reviewed articles on pubmed; use them if you like, hell smoke if you like; just know the risks and decide with your head on. Industry publications are not proof of their safety. I'd get a careful natural tan before I'd use a machine again. And I'm not about to do either without melanotan. I gotta try that shit.

I get Microdermabrasion and peels done for skin maintenance.

I recommend the SkinMedica Vitalize peel. It's a not-scary peel that lot of celebrities use (it's a "designer peel"), and I have seen great results with it. You don't get red/scary, and I definitely recommend checking out if a dermatologist/plastic surgeon or esthetician (though I recommend seeing a derm/plastic surgeon with my face rather than seeing an esthetician) to see if they offer this peel!

I am not sure I want to get anything stuck into my face. Isn't Juvederm similar to botox? I know it doesn't deaden the muscle, but it is nore of a filler per say.

I was wondering about that. My 1st peel I went to an esthetician, she did great and I healed really fast, but I think someone with a little more education might be a smarter choice.

The only thing Juvederm and Botox have in common is a needle. Juvederm is a fill, and it works great. Lasts 6 mos to a year.
