    Reebok traintone

So my girl is officially lifting heavy shit, hitting the gym 3xweek minimum and is loving it (deads, squats, bench ) she's needing a new pair of kicks though, her old ones are ancient and beat. She was looking into the reebok traintones but couldn't find a lot of info on how they work with lifting, positive or negative reactions. So, anyone here have any input???

    Thanks!

for squats and deads you dont want anything with cushion so if she is serious she scould just squat and dead in her socks. With exercises where there's no power going through her legs down to the floor, the shoes are not gonna matter.

Good point. I'll have to talk to her and report back!

    THANKS!

For squatting, etc. I'd actually suggest investing in a pair of PL / wrestling shoes. (Or else go barefoot!) I found a pair of men's wrestling shoes in my size at a Play It Again Sports. I ended up buying them because they were actually cheaper than a pair of Chucks (also a great pair of squatting shoes).

For general cross-training, I use ASICS. Personally I need something w/ better arch support than your usual stuff. Nike is a no-go at all for me. I also use Powerstep full-lenght orthodics to give me even better arch support.

In fact it might be worth it to go check out one of those places that do the foot analysis. I can tell that feet become an issue as you get older. I've genetically got bunions and had two surgeries to address them - the first when I was 25 and the second 2 years ago (age 44). I use the Powerstep orthodics as they work just as well as the custom ones my podiatrist was pushing for $600. (There are several studies indicating the OTC orthodics are just as good.) I am also currently dealing w/ plantar fasciitis (tight heel muscles). This seems to be a common occurrence when you start hitting your 40s (at least amongst the several people in my gym who I've noticed have it.) I wear heels and doubt I will ever NOT wear heels - but it does become something I need to cycle my shoes between high and flat if I want to continue doing it w/o pain.

Thus good shoes and awareness of your natural foot structure is worth spending a little time on.
