Intersting, not just weight lifting but aerobic excercise activity has been found to be a negative association in women for breast cancer ( over 60% decreased risk.)
Weight training builds more muscle which offsets potential for insulin resistance. Cancer cells ( because of their voracious appetite for glucose) have ten times the insulin receptors as normal cells. So I think the overall decline may be due to offsetting this hyperinsulin secretion in those with insulin resistance. ALso, both aerobic and weight lifting activity reduce transit time of food in the intestines, which is heavily correlated with reduction in colon cancer.
