My internal organs are sore or tight after a workout....

.....or it simply feels that way.

I haven't been here in a long time, but I'm concerned about something. For the last several weeks, after a workout, I get the usually muscle tightness and soreness and it lingers around for longer than it used to. But what concerns me is that along with the usual muscle soreness comes internal pain (a tightness is a better way to describe it). It usually centers around my lungs, and where my kidneys would be. In some instances I will raise my arms above my head and when I bring them down to my side, it feels as though my lung is sticking to my ribs somehow. I told my doctor about this, and she mentioned a sticking rib. I had an x-ray and everything seemed fine. But now this other pain (very mild pain) is pretty much constant around my upper chest, upper back, and sides (and my workouts intensify it). And every now and then it feels as though I have muscle cramp inside my chest cavity. Also when I turn around and touch my lower back (like I'm scratching my ass) I will also get this "cramp" or "sticky feeling" in my kidney area. Has anyone felt anything like this before? Or what could cause it?

Well if the doc ruled out all the serious problems with actual organ pathology, my next guess would be costochondritis. Impossible to say over the net though, as if its neuromusculoskeletal in nature it could be a variety of problems, from improper posture, to malaligned pelvis to exercise form hell even to stress levels and such.

May the problem is not with your bones, but your organs or muscles. Why not try MRI? MRI can show better pictures of organs and muscles than xray.

An occam's razor type explanation may just be dehydration. I get very similar tightness after every now and then after lifting. How's your water intake? Dehydration may not necessarily be the answer, but it's usually a good start for this type of issue.

my kidneys get an ache when i'm dehydrated, and maybe you reach a level of dehydration where it impacts on other organs too

I looked up Costochondritis and that could be a possibility. I did have bloodwork done about a year and a half ago, and everything looked normal except for low testosterone and I was dehydrated. I was told not to eat anything until after my blood test (which was done first thing in the morning) but I remember not drinking anything as well. So I dismissed it as simply not drinking anything for several hours. But lately I have awoke in the middle of the night with "cotton mouth" and very thirsty and have to get up and drink water because my throat is so dry. I just never though of dehydration causing the aches I am getting, but does make since for my kidney pain. I usually drink 2-3 liters of water a day.

I guess I will start doubling up on my water intake, and if that doesn't work maybe see about getting an MRI.

Thanks for the replies.

Yeah dehydration and/or electrolyte imbalances could cause cramps and such, although if you are getting that much water in everyday it shouldn't be an issue, the dehydration that is (barring environmental factors, climate, humidity, activity etc). Start throwing some salt on your food, get in your water and eat your vegetables at every meal.
