I have a strangely long uvula. It's flaps around so much my wife can't sleep. I don't like having things cut off my body but she is really pushing me to have a uvulectomy. : (
Anyone here had theirs lopped off? |

I am channelling Gilda Radner: "It'll behove ya' to be good to your uvula."
Wondering where to start? Confused? This will get you started.

According to the doctor the thinking is that it helps to keep stuff from entering the lungs. Not so much for humans though.
I guess it's like this: Let's say a dog is running fast breaking a trail in brush and breathing hard. The line from mouth to lungs is a faster straighter straight shot for him. So let's say a little stick flies in his mouth. The uvula provides a blocker/sensor function to keep it from getting to the lungs. |

so does that increase your risk of swallowing food the wrong way more often causing you to choke....maybe to death?
I'd say no to getting it removed. Its not a reasonable way to control snoring....sleep on your side or stomach. |

the epiglotis is what blocks food from entering your lungs not the uvula. Some experts believed that thats what the uvula did. However they then wouldnt be doing UP3 surgery. which is the removal of the uvula and surrounding tissue to treat snoring and or sleep apnea.
