I may never be able to train again for a very long time.

Today I spent 6+ hours at a hospital/???whatever you'd call it for low income people. I have a jacked up intervertebral disc so for 25 bucks I was able to get a shot of Toradol, a referral to a hospital for a MRI w/ and w/o contrast(contrast a radioactive dye used to see if there're hairline fractures). Plus lab work to see if my kidneys can handle the dye.

The doctor also wrote a weeks worth of Ultram and Robaxin for 28some dollars. I need the good stuff. Where are the percocets and oxys man?! Now the MRI might be pricey so, yeah. Not sure what the deal is with that. Maybe since I went through this place they'd cut me a deal??

The Spring semester starts this Wednesday and I can barely walk to the pisser at night let alone drive. No joke guys, Im fucking scared. Imagine if you could never lift or stay active? So I need to get this shit fixed. At least I have some pills to help me walk to classes and carry my books. fucking GD 50lb books. and I have 4 of them. Awesome for the back. I might just buy the online text key(s)

To top it off, the doc was a nice old Jewish man w/the name...Oprah.

So until I get my MRI interpreted I do not know my future.

Herniated Disk - Symptoms, Diagnosis, Treatment of Herniated Disk - NY Times Health Information

My younger brother had a diskectomy years ago. Worked well for him, but he's not in the gym at all.

And my nearly 50-year-old spine does not tolerate deads or heavy squats. Was pussying my way through sets with 115 tonight.

A ****** up back is not the end of the world. It's not great news, obviously, but you can still lift. Tank tops and sweat pants, brother! TANK TOPS AND SWEAT PANTS!

Seriously, hope the docs give you some good news. Best wishes, TJTJ.

    ...

In other news, I need a 12-step program for my sig. Is that super obnoxiously HUGE or what?

Well, its an old injury from when I was a teenager. It comes and goes. I have a high pain threshold so thats probably why it go worst. I also did some spinal decompression and this new guy I went to made it worst.

Since my first MRI in '05 it was showing degeneration. My Last MRI was close to 2yrs ago Feb '10. Maybe i fucked it up worst because the past 2 years I've built up my body hard.

As far as it being the end of the world, If I cant stay active might as well as start smoking and drinking again and pizza heaven. Plus my field of study requires me to me mobile for patients.

It just sucks ass. every time I get close to the mountain top some wild billy goat coming running by and kicks me in the nads. Its getting really fucking old. But that not what this is about.

We'll see what the MRI says. And if you got the hook up for perkys, PM me! lol

Oh and they told me I was over weight. 5'10 202lbs. Sorry pal, this aint blubber!

    There's a plan.

You can write your own book. Kind of like a bookend to this gem.

Title it "smoke drink pizza" and make a million.

It is not the end of the world. Stop the pity party :-) I had a 10mm bulge at L5/S1 and an 8mm bulge at L4/L5. I did not get surgery. I was going to a chiropractor for treatment. Sure, it sucked for about 6 weeks. I did this when I was 36 yrs old. I did a lot of BJJ and kickboxing at the time. I was back on the mat 3 months after the initial injury sidelined me. If you do a proper rehab, then continue on a spinal management program, you could be just fine. I am 40 now. I am able to deadlift and squat. Actually, I find that if I don't do deadlifts, the pain will return. I don't try to pull crazy weights, but maintaining a strong core really helps with the management of pain. It will flare up every now and then and keep me out of the gym for 2-3 weeks at a time. But, that is only about 1x per year. I can live with that.

No offense, but I just realized that this reminds me of my girlfriend This situation. She's always worrying about stuff that hasn't happened yet. And in the end it NEVER is as bad as it seems.

Thinking too much about what it probably will be, makes you go crazy because it's endless. You never get a answer. When it happens, you know it and you deal with it.

That fucking sucks bro, injuries are the worst. I kinda know the feeling, I've had issues with both my shoulders for yearsss. Seems everytime I'm at my most consistent and in the best shape is when it gets really bad. Not exactly the same as a back injury but I've definitely worried about never being able to train again... Have the first MRI coming up on the 13th so hoping for good news

I'm gonna send you a pm though bro I might be able to help you out

Injuries are no fun but they can be beneficial. We learn from each injury and are then able to make proper changes to our training that work better for each of us individually.

Worrying about your MRI is absolutely normal but unnecessary. Whatever it comes out to be you CAN continue to train. You can continue to be the best you can be.

The secret is very simple. You only have to let go of what you want to be and accept what you can be then make yourself the best you can be. You may say that this is not easy or not acceptable or you even disagree. I can say with experience that it is 100% true.

Before anyone says anything else or how they agree or disagree think about all the disabled athletes in the world. Instead of thinking "I wont be able to do" this or that, think of what you can do and do it best you can. Don't ever give up my friend. You never have to be alone in what you face in life.

Yeah I know. Just being melodramatic. Im sure, and hoping, I wont have to give up my love for being physically fit. And of course you know, for the zombie apocalypse. Because if you saw my My before and after SDMZ run youll see how serious I am about how big a part of life this is to me.

    Thanks man.

They do get you. The doc did hook it up with 60 50mg Tramadol Works the same as oxys or Percocet. They bind to the same receptors. take 4-5 50mg and its just like an oxy lol. When Im in class Im all laid back, learning and feeling groovy lol. He also gave me some muscle relaxers. Those dont give me a buzz but are great for my bad when sleeping. And work to keep my back from tensing

Melodramatic? I think not. When it is you that is injured and you are waiting on word from doc or MRI or whatever, it is a real pain for sure. I know first hand how "normal" it is to be worried. I said its not needed but that is not saying it is easy by any means.

You got people here that feel for you and wish you the best. Let us know what you find out.

well I have to go through this low income health center BS stuff that has me jumping thought hoops and dealing with a lot of red tape. I had my lab work done to see if my kidneys were aok to do a mri w/contrast but by the time I get done with all the red tape the lab results would no longer be valid because the blood was drawn was too many few before.

Still in pain. this health center really helped me out. they didnt hook it up with any heavy pain killers but gave me some meds that do shut my back the fuck up so I can at least focus on my studies. one of the meds was 8 buck for 60 tabs. that shit at walgreens is like 60 w/o insurance.

The books Im carrying arent helping either. I take all three bottles of meds with me to school lol. Im there all freaking day. up at 6am home at 7pm. So I need to have that shit on hand. Im also taking glucosamine chondroitin and msm

And since its the weekend I cant get in touch with the lady at the "real hospital" to do my financial shit so I dont end up owing some wild amount of money for the MRI. and of course the voice mail full and it just hangs up on me. I gotta get there in person on day.

This shit is lame. w/o being physically active my grades are down, which I dont stand for and just feeling lame as shit. I need to get my endorphins pumping again.

Ill post up when anything get done.

If I could afford insurance, which I have none, for my MRI with and without contrast sure would be nice.
I caught a lot of heat here for posting a thread asking for donations to pay for this schools semester. At least I not asking for donations to pay my medical bills.

Which is worst? asking for help for school or medical bills?

I almost qualified for somewhat of a discount card? I guess is the best way to describe it. But I was just outside of the "thresh hold" for assistance. But they guy I was talking to about getting this set up, who works for the hospital, told me that all hospitals are getting their systems and shit ready and in order for the Health Care Bill Obama passed. So maybe if I hold out till 2013....lol

IDK guys. Shit is real depressing.
