Something has been occuring for the last couple of days and I hope someone can give me a reason why and a way to stop it.
For the last couple of days I've been getting light headed. Its been happening during my workout and then on and off through out the day. Its nothing debiliting, but its annoying and I want to stop it. The only thing that I have changed is my diet. Starting last Sunday, I have eliminated all table sugar, candy, soda, and caffine from my diet. I think that my diet is pretty good, 2410Kcal, 291 grams of carbs, 184 grams of protein, and 61 grams of fat over 6 meals a day. I'm getting 6-7 hours of sleep a night, but I've been getting that amount of sleep for the last couple of years. I take 5 grams of creatine per day, 3 servings of 10 grams of glutamine, vit. C, B, zinc, and a children's 1-a-day. Any ideas? Thx |

If you're carbs are low, you'll get light headed.....
Get up very very slowly! Also, try taking hard candy with you to the gym...when you feel like this put one in your mouth and suck....DON'T CHOMP....suck! |

My post-work out shake consists of 2 scoops of whey protein, from optimum nutrition, and I believe that it contains BCAAs.
My daily intake of Carbs is 291 grams with breakfast consisting of 40 grams of carbs. Not sure about my blood pressure. I run on Mon, Wed, and Fri and after I run 1.5 miles I get on an eliptical stepper that measure heart rate and I go for 15 minutes around 130 - 135. I sit at my desk for the rest of the day and am getting light headed occasionaly there too. I'm sorta thinking that this is due to me cutting out the crap in my diet and hopefully its temporary. Maybe it detox from caffine and sugar. Thanks for your thoughts. |

All mayo aside, I may need to be a little more clear about my light headedness. Its not like I'm going to pass-out or anything like that.
Its more like my head moves but my brain doesn't. Hard to describe, sorta like having a buzz that comes and goes. |

If you just cut out all sugar and caffeine I am willing to bet that is the problem. Why would you cut out everything at once?

I really like a little bit of coffee with my sugar. So, when I cut one I have to cut the other. I was probably drinking 5-6 BIG cups of coffee with at least 4 - 5 teaspoons of sugar in each cup. I tried to cut back and limit the number of cups but that didn't work very well. Quiting completely works best for me.
Before the holidays, my diet was pretty clean except for the coffee and sugar combination. So I just went back to my normal diet a couple of weeks ago, around Jan 5. I've got a big PT test coming up in about 2 months so I decided that it was time to tighten up the diet. Unfortunately, cutting out the sugar also cuts out the caffine. So they pretty much have to go at the same time. Coffee without sugar isn't an option and I don't do decaf. |

I'm a bit afraid of the artificial sweeteners. Not sure what they will do to me in the long run.
I really do want to give up the coffee and sugar. I've found (in the past) that my energy level is higher and more stable when I'm not drinking coffee, soda, hot choclate, ... It just sucks in the winter time because I like to drink something hot to keep me warm. |

there's nothing wrong with stevia, it's an all-natural sweetener and is much sweeter than table sugar...Personally I use Splenda and Sweet N' Low because I'm too cheap to buy stevia, but oh well.
If you like hot drinks, go with green tea and unsweetened cocoa, then sweeten with stevia and cream with a bit of soy milk. Works great for me. Peace. |
