everytime i try to do abs...

i rarley do abs, ever... when i try to do them after about 5 reps of anything it seems my lower spine starts to hurt... like a sharp pain , and it only hurts when trying to do abs... i dont think the problem is with my lower back muscles since i do hit back pretty hard include rack deads... any ideas?

I have the same problem Jad! I'm interested to see what the responses are.

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain...

Do planks:

planks are when you rest your forearms on the ground about shoulder width apart and raise up on your tip-toes and your forearms. You then hold this position for as long as you can, hopefully longer than a minute, completely straight, no cheating and raising your butt up in the air. Stay tight and focus on the iso-metric contraction of the abs.

What about crunches? Does this only happen when you do full ROM sit ups?

Leg raises?

reverse crunches?

reverse hypers?

hypers?

do these exercises bother your back at all?

Hypers are hyperextensions, on a hyperextension bench for your lower back.

reverse crunches are kind of like leg raises except instead of hanging you are lying on your back on the floor.

I believe Jodi had a picture posted somewhere, maybe in her journal, of planks.

I have a back problem also, it's a catch 22 situation. Good abs, good back, good back, good abs.
