Low body temperature

I have been taking my body temperature for 5 days straight and it has been averaging 96.0 degrees in the morning with no food. My normal Basal Rate is 98.8 degrees. I got lab test results back and everything is in range TSH - 1.5 and all the others are in range, but for some unknown reason my body temperature is so low and I have ALL symptoms of hypothyroid and lossing my hair as well and doctors don't care, Told me to come back in 4 weeks WTF no advice nothing. SO i read about wilson syndrome and how t-3 in low dosages are given for a short peroid of time to get things rolling, I have results from all my test if you want to post for thyroid and testosterone. Why don;t doctors see that I clearly have all the signs and symptoms. The worst part is cloudy thinking. I even had to take a 6 weeks leave from work !!

That is exactly what I was thinking, 25mcg should be plenty, then taper off after your desired time.

The thing about the thyroid is it can deceptively look normal except to a thyroid specialist, although usually this is if they are only looking at TSH, because TSH can be high but thyroid output can still be poor.

ok now that is a good thing, now We need to determine if there is a possbile adrenal manfunction here as well. If that is not the case then I will go for it 12.5 mcgs 2 times a day spaced out 8 hours My last test results says kidneys are fine, but what part of the blood test would tell if my adrenals are fine? This is what I need to know !! Rule out all possibities before taking next step. My dhea was mid range and cortisol was on top end at 22 range goes to 22.5 is ismaking me hestiitant

my levels of these where extremely LOW !!
32 so its pointing more towards hypothyroidism

A decreased serum alkaline phosphatase may be due to:

Zinc deficiency.
Hypothyroidism.
Vitamin C deficiency/Scurvy.
Folic acid deficiency.
Excess Vitamin D intake.
Low phosphorus levels (hypophosphatasia)
Celiac disease.
Malnutrition with low protein assimilation (including low stomach acid production/hypochlorhydria).
Insufficient Parathyroid gland function.
Pernicious anemia
Vitamin B6 insufficiency

Our core body temperatures can vary from a high of 100 degrees in the afternoon with lots of activity to a low of 96.1 in the early morning hours before we awaken. So, depending on the time of day, the readings can be persistently "low" normal. (Best time to measure it is 3-4 hours after awakening.)

Historically, the temperature of 98.6 was arbitrarily decided hundred years ago using one german subject. We now know better.

With that said, there are alot of things that can cause low core body temperatrure besides wilson's syndrome. (make sure they checked a T3 level) . In my athletes, the number one cause is due to overtraining, This is due to the vicious cycle of release of a milieu of stress hormones (and your cortisol level is on the high end of normal) .

The elderly have lower than normal core body temperatures due to their decline in melatonin production (which is why they rarely mount a fever when they get sick). Thus, shift workers, or those who have irregular sleep hours or those who expose themselves to alot of light late in the evening will have affected their melatonin production and can have low body temperatures. Mine runs 96 all the time because of this. Those who live in constant abuse (sexual, physical, mental) have lower than normal body temperatures due to the contstant state of stress that they live in. Sometimes this is the only clue and they are confronted with that question with an affirmative answer.

If you are worried about the adrenals the most accurate test is to do a morning cortisol level combined with something called a dexamethasonse suppression test. They are not easy and have to be done exactly right (ie: at 8:00 am before arising...so we do the cortisol level in the hospital while in bed to achieve the most accurate results.)

You have a good differential for low alkphos, but there is one other important one, exogenous male or female hormones, thus, in some steroid users, this is the case.

The most accurate for core body temperature is intrarectally......but that is no fun, the next most accurate is the tongue, then ears, then armpit. The temperature does go down a little as you move away from "core" body measurement. When patients are admitted for hypo or hyperthermia we get their temperature intrarectally to be 100% accurate.

Yep, they use a rectal temp reading to help determine time of death for a rough estimate (relatively fresh dead obviously).
