kidney problems?

About 4 years ago, I had an intense case of mono, and as a result my kidneys took a beating. Ever since everytime I go to the Doc, they comment on the protein and blood found in my urine that my kidneys decide to let through. I've been told that even though I've fully recovered that my kidneys may always behave this way.

Now that I'm starting to get serious and hitting the weight room pretty hard, it has crossed my mind if there's anyway a supplement, or overtraining could effect my kidneys or my health in anyway. Anyone with prior kidney issues? Anything I should be aware of?

I guess I should also add that my blood pressure did raise quite a bit. The year before it happened my bp was something like 95/75. At it's worst it was like 135/95. Since then it's back down to almost where it was. And during the mono I was 15.

you have post infectious glomerulonephritis and continue to leak protein and some blood. It would be nice to know how much (is it more or less than 3000mg or 3 grams a day?) Anyway, remember it means the basement membranes of your kidney cells are now more porous and leaking protein. The catch 22 is that you are leaking more protein out of your body but at the same time, too much protein can hurt it as well. Some supplements such as chromium picolonate has been associated with interstitial glomerulonephritis, so yes, some supplements can potentially affect your kidneys. I would stay in close contact with your kidney doctor/internist etc. and have him/her help you. Unfortunately, alot of the supplements may or may not have studies showing safety in those with post infectious glomerulonephritis, so be careful.

Thanks for the info, you're right on the money. That is what I was finally diagnosed with. I'll have to take what you said, and the other info I've found in my research into consideration, and consult my doctor.
