Question body fat scale

does anyone have a scale that also measures body fat? i recently bought 1 and was wondering how accurate they are compared to other methods of body fat testing. from what i understand, the body fat scale seems to flucuate based on how hydrated or dehydrated your body is at the time.

They are not accurate at all. You are better off with caliper tests or better yet, hydrostatic water tank test if its available. Do not bother with those scales, they are a waste of money IMO.

Go with a manual like (Accumeasure) or Fat Track II (digital). Both 11% for my readings.

How about theose electrostatic ones

I heard that the ones that send current throught your body are not that bad, of course they are not the most accurate but atleast they offer consistancy I is this right or has some one lied to me again .

All electrostat are low quality. They all have problems reading after eating drinking or exercising. And you should wait 3 hours after eating or drinking and always use before exercise. I lost 20 lbs using one and it never changed my body fat, upon contacting the company that made it I was told that it was correct and that they make the best electrostat scales in the industry.
Calipers are the way to go.

I got a body fat scale and I think it's pretty useless.

I messured myself on Sunday mornig and the scale was telling me that I lost 8 kg of lean body mass since the previous Sunday morning, without loosing averall weight! I don't think that's humanly possible. On top of that I eat well, rested well and and worked out 4 times that week.

Save your money.

i started this thread a while back and i felt the need to add to it. that damn scale is driving me insane. i know that everyone said the bf scales are worthless. i figured as long as it read that my bf was dropping consistently, the actual bf i was carrying was irrelevant in my mind. i am dropping pounds at a slow healthy rate (after struggling with a plateau) but that scale says my bf has not changed. it is so discouraging to look at. anyways, i felt i had to vent.

Wow, I am suprised to hear all this from people who do research. According to industry standard, the scale is superior to the cheap calipers and method you use. There is no quantifiable standard for pulling the fat to measure it with the calipers, so hence your measurement will never be the same. Thats why the real test is done over multiple places, multiple times. Figure out how to get consistency with the scale and it works great IMO.

I have found my Tanita bf scale to be very useful. Dehydration will yield incorrect results. The numbers my scale scale spits out are in line with body fat composition tests done at my gym (two different times). Obviously, they are not as accurate as other methods. The hydrostatic water tank test is the most accurate, but far from practical for regular use. In fact, the more LBM you have, the less accurate they will be. However, if used right the good ones can help you track your progress. I have had mine for almost a year, and it always tells me the same as the mirror--unless I am dehydrated.

last year i was just fat thats all there is to it. i think my highest weight was 240. i didnt get serious about lifting and diet until about feb or mar of this year. i am currently right at 200 lbs. i was wearing like a size 40 waist before (yea i know) and now i can get into a 34. that bf scale has stayed on 27 or 28% bf since the day i bought it which was like back in april or so. any thoughts?

I HAVE HAD MINE FO 8 MONTHS NOW AND ONLY CHANGES FROM MORNING TO NIGHT (sorry about caps). If you continue to use that scale I would suggest only use first thing in the morning before eating and drinking anything. Food and drink does effect these scales effectiveness.

They are so innacurate that they should be considered fraud.

I just had my bf tested with the 3 point calipers and a month or so ago by the bod pod ( underwater weighing)..both of those came out at 12% and 12.5% respectively..I also have a scale that measures BF ( or so it says) and it ranges from 14%-17% on any given day. So, from my experience, they are inaccurate.

EXACTLY that is happening to me right now. I am trying not to get irratated over this and let the mirror decide at what point i am happy with myself.

Likewise. I spent $75 on Tanita scales with alleged BF measuring capabilities. I can vary in bodyfat by up to 5% per day. These scales are a worthless piece of shit.

Take some fat from any meat and tie around your body, letīs see if the eletric pulse from the scale detects it. I always wanted to try that.
