So you've been on bc before? There are many different kinds nowadays with limited side effects.
And correct me if I am wrong, but do you mean that you believe your amenorrhea is being caused by stress or because of exercising too much and not eating enough?

Your post is sort of confusing.

I think you found your own answer as to why you are having this issue. Your calories are way too low and your body is in starvation mode. Number one reason that women develop amenorrhea is because of their diet. You should really increase your calories.

I went throught the worrying before and but didn't think much of it. Then I really worried after 6 months, then 9 months and finally I had to go to the doctor. She tested everything down to estrogen panel, prolactin etc........ She looked over my diet and finally she just told me that I'm athletic and because I try to stay relatively lean all year round and I'm constantly exercising there is not much I can do other than birth control. Well, other than depo (which stops periods) I can't use birth control so I just deal with it now. I know my diet is good and sometimes (like twice a year) I'll get my period but most of the time I do not. Not all women though that are low bodyfat and exercise alot have this issue either. We are all different and our bodies react differently.

Please do increase your food intake by at least 200-300 calories. Give it a few months and see if that helps. Worst case is that you have to either deal with it or do the birth control.

    jODI,

That is good advice, thanks again. One question.. How do you deal with the water retention? Did you ever experience weight gain, bloating, or anything that your period would give you normally?

Yeah I do get the bloat and water gain and stuff. I just drink extra water that week, like 8L instead of 6. It helps with the water gain.

came upon thread late. your doc is worried about female atheltic triad

    http://www.physsportsmed.com/issues/1997/03mar/joy.htm

as sara mentioned, a bone density might not be bad, if you already have developed osteopenia or even frank osteoperosis ( i've seen some 28 year olds with bone densities of 70 yr olds) then getting on the birth control pilll if your periods have not returned after 6 months is imperative. (I suspect this is what your doc is worried about when he/she encouraged the pill,.... alas not all insurance plans will pay for bone densities unless the woman is menapausal and after age 50) . I definately recommend what Jodi and everyone has been encouraging.....eat eat eat!

I've had problems with missing periods too. I stopped BC, tightened up my diet and workouts and lost about 20lbs. Got the blood work done and it all seemed normal. Were spotting some.. Had a big cheat day and it actually got my period started. TERRIBLE cramps and lots of bleeding.. I think you know what to do, you need to raise cals if you want the periods to come back. The body needs some time to adapt after weight fluctuations and BC, so raise cals and give it time

I agree with everyone who said eat more - I was there 10 years ago myself. Also it only took taking bc pills twice for a couple of days to get my periods regulated ( and eating more at the same time of course)...

Also don't worry, even if you were to take BC for long time, the new gen pills are quite good, and ever since I switched to the 4th gen pill I've had no side effects whatsoever... it also helps to do a proper hormonal-levels blood test before going on a pill, since that helps your doctor decide if you need a pill with high/low progestin and estrogen....

The effects of getting off EPHEDRA are awful. You might have needed medical attention. I have researched and found that it is much like getting off cocaine, its that powerful to the system. Are you ok now?
