    Brachial plexus (nerve problem)

Do you all know how long it takes for nerves to heal? also does anyone know if you can speed or help the process of nerve-healing? what i thought was a shoulder injury turned out to be a nerve stretch. Isnt bad but i cant really lift upperbody for awhile. My chiropractor (one of the best in texas i might add ) is convinced its nerves and not my shoulder because when he did resistant tests with my right and left side, my right side was weaker. It didnt matter if he tested my right vs left fingers, right vs left wrists, right vs left shoulder. The right was always weaker. It worries me a biut but i hear its common and mine is mild. Anyone help me out? Know any info, tips?

If I were you I would go to a specialist and have an x-ray performed to see what is going on. The last thing you want to do with nerve problems is let them go, even if some chiro "checked it"! The bracial plexis is not something that you really want to mess with. if you have nerve damage you need to realy get some help.

either way an x-ray would be worthless, you would need an MRI.

I injured my brachial plexus nerve, but worse than what you described and it took almost one full year to completley regain all strength and size in my right arm, shoulder and pec.

As robert said...x-ray is a waste of time and money in your situation....MRI would confirm the diagnosis but why spend the money on one if you dont have to...this type of injury is commonly seen in people who workout and a good chiropractor or sports medicine MD who has seen a few of these cases should be able to make the diagnosis without an MRI.

Sorry to say that nerve healing is a slow process....the good news is that it WILL heal so just keep getting adjusted and do the exercises your chiro gives you!

(by the way...what is your chiro's name and where is he/she in Texas?)
My opinions may have changed, but not the fact that I am right.

When one door closes another door opens; but we often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door that we do not see the ones which open for us.

Dale Smith...he works at the cooper clinic in dallas. He works with a doctor, Dr. Montgomery, who was a doctor for the US olympic team. You get good treatment when your parents are both doctors

How did you hurt your nerve? I was in a car accident and it has been over 9 years and I am still not right. My arm was broken and my nerve was stretched after hitting 3 trees on my side. What kind of things did you have to do to get better? My arm was completely paralyzed and is a little better, but not completely better. I do not have much strength with my extendor muscles.

I don't think I actually injured it doing anything, the muscles just sort of clamped down on the nerve and caused it, I just gradually started training it with light weights, initially I could not even do a push-up.

You dont need an mri to confirm brachial plexus injury, any good chiro or doc that sees it regularly can make that diagnosis without expensive imaging. For the most part, it will recover unless there has been complete avulsion ( seperation of the nerve root from the spinal cord), unfortunately, it can take weeks to months to a year.

I guess I had both a crappy chiropractor and doctor.
