5 hours on a bad night, I get a better workout with 8 hours sleep. I go to the gym at 6:00 in the morning.

On school days I get very little, but on weekends I make up for it by sleeping until two or three.

I typically get to bed at about 11, to wake up at 6 to get ready for work.

    Thats 7 hours.

Sleep is crucial for many reasons. For bodybuilders, sleep will assist the protein synthesis mentioned in the last section and help to mentally recharge the lifter for their next training session.

Sleep also assists testosterone and growth hormone manufacture. One thing to remember about sleep is the fact it often means 8+ hours without food. This could spell disaster for the serious lifter as the muscles might eventually begin to break down their structure to supply glycogen to the brain and other organs (gluconeogenesis).

To negate this, eat a high-protein meal before retiring to bed, and one immediate upon rising (if aerobic training is not planned for that day). To achieve adequate sleep, the consensus seems to be seven-nine hours per night. To get this amount employ the following:

Take a warm bath before retiring.
    Listen to relaxing music.
Eat a small amount of carbohydrate.
Retire at the same time each night.
    Don't watch television in bed.
    Resist sleep medications.
    Avoid alcohol and cigarettes.
    I thought this was interesting.

my body wakes me up after 6 hours, apparently that's all I need as I don't get tired during the day. I hate to sleep anyway, it feels like I'm wasting my life.
I train differently than most, my beef is with gravity the weights on the bar are just the medium...Thanks to Wall Street your slice of the American Pie has been reduced to a crumb.

Proper rest and quality rest are VERY important. As with proper nutrition and proper exercise DONE with perfection and perfect form.

If you really want total health and pure muscle DO NOT CHEAT yourself in any of these areas.

Cheating will haunt you eventually and rob you of what you want - and need.

    Take Care, John H.

I used to do stuff like that (seeing how long I could stayup) 24 hours is really hard, I don't get how people can even make it to 48?

I did this once on a school day to, during class I thought maybe if I closed one eye for awhile it would help, didn't like the results so I decided to try both eyes for awhile. slept past the bell and my damn teacher didn't even wake me up

I usually go to bed at 12- think about some shat for another 2 hours-fall asleep-wake up at 7. I've been doing this for the last 2 years and I'am like this for the rest of the day.

Sleep use to come so much easier when I was younger. Twelve hours was nothing! I recently developed waking up to go to the bathroom at least twice (I drink a gallon of water a day) through the night and sometimes I have a hard time going back to sleep but, I'd say at least 7-8 hours a night. My Dad who has been healthy his whole life says that once you wake up don't force yourself to go back to sleep. What about bathroom visits in the middle of the night?? Oh well, I guess getting older destroys everything!
