what kind of a tear?
tore from the bone?
need surgical repair?
partial tear?
Did you get an MRI? Don't just assume it is torn until the MRI says so.
I tore my pec benchpressing. Any advice, other than layoff the chest work? How long will this take to heal?
Thanks![]()

P-funk,
What if I had sharp pain in the middle of my pec while bench pressing two months ago and it still hasn't healed? Do you think I partially tore it? It didn't swell up that much. I haven't done any workouts in 2 months because of a rotator cuff injury.

could be a partial tear. could be a strain. could be a pull.
go get an MRI and see a specialist.

I guess I don't know if it was a tear or a pull. It made a ripping sound. Didn't swell much. The pain is right in the center of my pec muscle, just about 3" above my nipple and out towards my armpit. I don't think I injured my shoulder joint at all. It's been about a month and still very weak - I wouldn't be able to bench more then about 50% of what I could before without it hurting.
what does it look like when you flex your chest...are both pecs symmetrical?
I would assume its a partial tear (strain).....if it didnt swell or bruise, which should heal on its own....but, like P said...MRI is the only way to really know.
you said it made a ripping sound......are you sure?...that just doesnt sound right.
My opinions may have changed, but not the fact that I am right.
When one door closes another door opens; but we often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door that we do not see the ones which open for us.
definitely a ripping sound. You can not see any deformation, however.
although it did turn a little black and blue at first - that's gone now - you can't see the damage
