Residual Pain in one knee - Advice?

Hi everyone, well for like 2 years now I've had some minor pain off and on in my right knee. It will sometimes be sore if I sit too long in one position and can't stretch the leg out. Also will sometimes give me problems on stairs. I haven't gone to the doctor, because I don't want to hear "stop working out".

For legs I do smith squats, leg extensions, ham curls, various calf raises, leg presses. Squats and presses I usually point the toes just a little out to work the inside quads.

I've resigned myself to living with it. Right now it's a bad spell, which made me post to see if anyone else has this? Or if anyone else has knee tips in general?

Definitely can't stop squatting. And I had the pain when I squatted free too, before using the smith rack.

I've read not to let your knees pass your feet on squats. I don't really know if I do or not. Could this be a problem?

Anyway, any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Personally, i would rather go to the doctor and see what was wrong with my knee, instead of it getting so damaged that i would hurt my body to a point where i couldn't even walk. If you get it checked out, chances are, you can get back to working out properly without feeling pain. the chiropractor is good for joints, check one out. i go to him regularly because my scrum is always tilted backwards and causing me pain. after a session with him, voila. i miss maybe 1 day at the gym and then I'm back at it. make the knee issue short term instead of long term, catch my drift?

Ah crap. Going to the doctor is such a PAIN I don't want to get hooked up with chiro cause of the cliche stereotypes. Seems they give you short term fixes.

Well, I just might take your advice. Now just have to make the time.
