Unhappy Big bump on bottom of breastbone.

Hello. I have a health concern. I have a lump that I assume is cartilage right at the base of my breastbone between where the top two ribs meet. It is smaller than a golf ball. I have had it for 2 years or so and it seemed to have gotten larger when I took a break from lifting recently....I sometimes get shooting pains throughout my stomach- often near the bump.

So what is this? A doctor looked at it briefly long ago and he said it is a buildup of cartilage from strenous activity.. It didn't pain me then. I figure those of you on the forum know more about this than a doctor anyway!

Does anyone else have this or something similar? Should i have a good doctor examine it?

    -thanks,
    oGabott!

Dude! Get to the fucking Doctor! Especially if that thing has gotten bigger over the years. That is serious shit.

on drugs? nah. used to mess around here and there. nothing serious.

anyway, I really think that this bump is not dangerous. it's just my breastbone or something.... the pains in stomach could be unrelated..... i hope.

so no one else has a lump of cartilage on your breastbone.???

    You have two choices:
    1. Use your brain and see a Doctor.
    2. Keep asking here and wait for the answer you like then just ignore the problem.

    Good luck with that.

Chondrosarcomas are common tumors of the breast plate and the xiphoid process is part of it. Although you are a little young for chondrosarcomas it has been found in younger population . (it could also be an osteosarcoma which would affect the young adults more.) Cases have been found with enlarging xiphoid procesess so get your ass to a doctor that is going to take it seriously.
