Red face Doctor put me on Zypan

I went to a doctor that specializes in nutrition. We tested for food allergies, and they came back negative. We discovered that I have a difficult time digesting protein. I feel like my digestive system is slow with milk products like cheese the most. She has me on a dietary supplement called Zypan. I take two tablets with each meal and it adds acid to my stomach to help it digest. Product is made by Standard Process inc. Anyone had this problem and how do I eat to lose weight? Another thing I noticed is when I eat Wheat Cereal now I almost cannot swallow it. Like a fear of choking on it as I eat it. Ok, I know this sounds strange. It does to me too. Any ideas though? Anyone take Zypan. I am bloated alot of the time too. It feels like the food just sits there and it makes me want to skip meals.

Thanks.

interesting, not to scare you or anything but I knew a guy that started lifting weights and eating more protein and he had some rare disease where he could not digest protein, maybe the same thing you have, and he died. the difference with him is he did not even know he had this problem and it was too late, he just died in the hospital, the docs could not do anything.

I have heard of ppl having a problem like that before. I just don't have the acid in the stomach to break it down as quickly as someone else without this problem. The tablets are basically some acid tablet.

you can add apple cider vinegar/lemon juice 1 tsp of each half hour before your meal. if your stomach acids are low you will have bloating and malabsorption of protein, fats, b vitamins. zypan is a digestive enzyme similar to pancreatin, To test stomach acids take 1/4 tsp of baking soda in 8 ounces of water first thing in the morning and see if you burb with in 3 mins then you will know. Proper way to get diagnosed is to have an upper endoscopy done by a Gi person and have actually acids taken from your stomach, but good luck finding one to do it. Ask your nutritionist if she knowns of any one with heidsburg capule test. You swallow the capsule it monitors the changes over 15 minutes period. Low stomach acids are also a sign of bacterial overgrowth or prolong stress. Low stomach acids are so over looked, but its great your nutriitionist is aware of being too low then too high. Do you have white coating over the tongue if you do where is it heavily coated at. Gas is usually due to bacterial overgrowth and fermentation of carbo by bad bacteria.

Exclamation Zypan

I am curious as to why your doctor felt you needed Zypan initially. Zypan has the complete reverse effects on me. Without my symptoms are like those that you describe after taking Zypan. My family doctor couldn't find out after test after test, why I was so lethargic which continued to worsen over the past two years. Ebstein Barr and Mono tests were taken numerous times. Finally, he said, "Kathie, I honestly can't do anymore for you, but I don't dispute that there is something wrong because you know your body better than anyone else". So he sent me to a nutritionalist who used to be a pharmacist, but got out of it because of all the chemicals being put into our bodies. After a lengthy questionnaire of symptoms and consultation, he took a hair follicle test and saliva test which told everything that was occurring in my body--good and bad. The saliva test showed much about Cortisol levels. Mine were "normal" upon rising, but extremely elevated throughout the day. No one can lose weight with Cortisol levels elevated. You might look into this test. Mind you, I have been exercising ritually for 2-1/2 years and lost not one pound and eat about 1,000 calories per day on the average. These tests I feel saved my life! Kathie
