    Gastric Distress?

When I participate in mountain bike races and even just intense rides, my stomach and intestines wreak HAVOC on me. I've done some reading up on this and it seems to me that it could be gastric distress. Any chance any of you ever experience this? I'm looking for ways to prevent it, because let me tell you, experience this during a 24 hour mountain bike race isn't a hell of a lot of fun. Two years in a row now I've spent way too much time in the Port-a-Potty. (thank god the race organizers kept them clean!)

Simple carbs. Lean proteins the night before (chicken, potatoes). Beef jerky before the race too, for protein and sodium. No doubt I may be able to prevent this with a proper diet, but I have no idea what that would be.

I don't think so. The intestinal problems usually don't start up until well into the race. I'm fine the night before and the morning of the race. The last two years the problem started after my first lap (90 minutes of hard, intense riding).

I did some quick Googling and I read that endurance athletes can experience this.

I would suggest a high carb meal more along the lines of pasta the night before.

Beef Jerky? That alone could be causing it! Can't you find something better to eat before your race?

Adrenaline rush from the competition. Ever hear of the old expression "you were so excited you almost shit your pants"
