Has anyone over the age 20 had them removed recently?
I want mine out, for the past couple of years I get this nasty smelling white ball of farts coming out from them.
I hear different stories....take them out it's no biggie....leave them you need it.

Tonsillectomy

You mean why I didn't answer it?

I'm not qualified to address surgical intervention queries of this sort. I'm well aware of the controversial nature of adult adenoid and tonsil tissue removal. I had this same problem with localized infections/exudates for several years. I opted to keep mine.

You get tonsilitis and sore throats easily Minh?

Any chance you have allergies, post nasal drip?

Those white balls are reffered to as tonsil stones. Alot of times when people cough who have infected tonsils, they will come out and yes they smell like ass.

First of all those pics are

I don't do well with infectious pics

anyway...I got tonsillitis 3-4 times every year from the ages 19-23. i finally got them removed my junior year in college at the age of 23. It was the WORST experience of my life. It was more painful than when I had a parasite in my intestines...that was eating away causing me to pass blood whenever I pooed I couldn't even swallow water. it hurt to breathe After 2 weeks of intense pain...I lost 23 pounds

I then was unknowingly addicted to percocet...which makes vicoden seem like pez. i didn't know I was supposed to step down my dosage and just stopped when the pain disappeared and had a withdrawl and went to the ER...I couldn't breathe, felt like vomiting, and was numb...They told me what the problem was and everything was fine a few days after the problem.

All in all the short term: It was horrid...the worst experience in my life....I've heard it worse as you get older...however,

in the long term: I've haven't gotten sick once since they were removed a year ago...ALSO my seasonal allegies stopped!!! no one told me that this could be a postive side effect but it was.

i am very glad I had it done! I just wish it was done while I was a child.

I always had problems with them as a kid, I used to beg my mother to have them taken out.
I don't get them as often now but the stones are constant.

I've heard that it's a horrible experience. Is that true, then?

That's what the Doc told me, it's worse on men than it is on women.
I'll fill you in on the details once it's done.

I'm going to have to deal with it.

I think the procedure is slightly riskier for an adult than a child....I know that recovery is tougher for big people.

Quote:
Recovery from Tonsillectomy / Adenoidectomy
Tonsillectomy is usually done on an outpatient basis, with the patient returning home the same day as the surgery. Only rarely are patients observed overnight in the hospital and return home the day after the surgery. The tissue of throat has many sensory nerves and is always moving because of swallowing. Therefore, there is pain associated with the healing period following tonsillectomy. This is usually worse in adults. There is approxiamtely one week of significant pain and difficulty swallowing and usually a second week of mild to moderate pain or swallowing. The use of ice-packs to relieve pain may be used, although sucking on an ice cube or ice cream may provide adequate comfort. In addition, pain-relief medication may be prescribed. During recovery, it is recommended to eat soft, easy-to-swallow food and to drink a lot of cold fluids. The use of humidifier at home can also bring some comfort. Your child may experience alternating "good and "bad days for 2 weeks after surgery. It is a good idea to keep your child away from crowds or ill people for 7 days, since the throat is highly susceptible to infections during this period.
Ironic, MinOlee going to the Doc for T&A. Funny how the meaning changes.
