I had the same exact deal for 15+ years. I eventually had my doctor remove half my nail on both big toes. This solved the problem. They haven't grown back since.

and I had some issues with my finger nails and I saw my dermatologist about it.

Your toe-nail naturally grows in this pattern. The best idea is too cut the toenail straight in hopes it will grow straight and not curve, but it's unlikely. Just keep basic maintence on them and as soon as you start feeling the pressure on them cut them out, but make sure you get it all or else it'll lead to an infection and more pain. I get the same thing all the time. They're a bitch during football. It's weird how it's only when you have a ingrown toenail that everyone seems to step on it.

Go to the podiatrist, have him/her cut it out and kill the nerves in that section where it keeps occuring. Worked for me for the past 3 years after dealing with what you are doing for 7 years, it was pure agony.
Coarse edged youth, the irish pendants string from their smiles
not yet plucked as to slacken the seams
and drag down the features of age,
no folds or creases from unkempt wear
    eyes of tranquilty, crystalline-beads
no sign of despair in their hair, nor their hearts
but oh they have yet to be experienced and that makes aging so very worth it...ML circa2012

Do you put on and take off your shoes without unlacing them? If you're doing that take the time to untie your shoes each time and your problem may go away. The pull from having laced shoes can pull where the nail meets the skin and cause that problem... Foreman would likely have the other answer.

I had this for a LONG time. My advice would be go to see a professional, theyll either tell you what to do to get rid of them or reccomend an operation to remove them.

There are a few things you can do to help yourself and stop them coming back:

Buy some larger shoes, preferably with steel toecaps. My toenail problems were mostly caused by my shoes rubbing my toes. Toecaps stop them from touching you at all.

Bathe your feet in warm salty water regularly. A lot of problems with the toenails is risk of infection and other horrible things like septecemaia (SP?). If you bathe them like this every day itll clean them up pretty good and stop an infection from building up. Change your socks every day aswell.

And as somebody else said, just try to let them grow out. Just stop cutting them.

But yeah, best bet is to see a doctor or something.

One more comment. If your toe starts to swell or turn red, it's infected. I let one go about 5 months once and the doctor warned me never to put it off like that because if the infection spreads to the bone in your toe, it's big problems for you. I just had my other big toe done tonight. It's outpatient, doesn't hurt and fixes everything permanently.

i had this problem ...many..many..years ago.... for me it was cutting the nail too short.

So what happens is, as you walk, run, train, the flesh around the nail pushes on to the sharpe edge of the nail.... and over a couple days.... or even hours.... the skin becomes raw and infected from the constant motion of being pressed against the nail......in your shoes it's hot and sweaty, perfect for bacteria to work it's self into the open wound....slowly getting worse..... and then you get the painful redness along the side.
    .......always question authority......
