I would right now! lol

A friend of mine told me he knew a man who would blow a 5.35 on the breathalizer. Yes, that is over 5%. I told him there is no way I would believe that and he would be dead at such a level. He told me he drank tons of alcohol everyday and he slowly built up to that. I still say he is bullshitting me. Does anyone here know if that is even possible?

I have never said this before...Foreman is right on all accounts, especially the kill him part.
If sense were common, everyone would have it.

I would have blown it off as complete bullshit except my friend is 46 and a works as a psychotherapist at a hospital. Next time I see him I will smite him.
Without knowing for sure, let me offer a guess on the veracity of your friends statment.
The number your friend cites is (probably) outside of the linear response / analyte detection range that this test is intended to measure. Most methods use a 2- or 3-point calibration method to sync instrument use to measurement (measurement validation against known standards, eg., samples of externally certified concentration, obtained from gov't approved commercial sources). There is usually an ASTM method for detection that specifies the calibration method and may even identify standard sources.
Therefore, the number lies outside of the calibration limits (too low and too high a number are considered false and unverifiable by the analytical method in question). He may 'blow' that number, but its unlikely to be an accurate measure of blood alchohol.
I wouldn't take it out on your friend; I would pass on this explanation. If he is interested, he will follow up on it himself.
Caveat: The above statement is intuitive logic based on years of analytical techniques use; I also have developed several new methods for realtime analyte detection. I'm not following up on the calibration limits for this method. I've zero interest in the topic.
