    Knee pain

Alright, I've been having a nice amount of pain in my right knee. It's just to the left and down a tad from my kneecap and it hurts when I extend it or retract it back in. Stairs make it hurt though walking for the most part is fine. Any ideas or suggestions on how to rehab it take care of the knee? Thanks.

    a) see a speciallist.

    b) rest and ice

    c) repeat B until pain goes away or specialist says so.

Yeah, not seeing a specialist...no insurance right now I'll ice and rest it but it really hasn't been straining lately. I was wondering if it could be hurting because of a lack of leg work and exercise.

are you not doing leg work because it is hurting?

did you hurt it doing something specific?

Why do you have a lack of leg exercise? Why would only one knee hurt if this were the case (lack of workout is causing this tendonistis/bursitis)?

How did you injure your knee previously? Also, are your calves large or hamstrings overdeveloped? Looking for front/back balance issues.

What do you do for cardio? When is the last time you replaced your athletic shoes (you use for cardio)?

Kinda, I stopped working out altogether a bit but since I've started I haven't done much for legs because of the pain. I don't remember any incident where I may have specifically hurt it.

I'm not sure how I injured it before either, but the pain went away with my workouts...seems worse this time though.

I've been doing HIIT on Elliptical and Bike lately. I'm wearing older shoes but would that make a difference with the Elliptical? I also did a bunch of incline walking on the treadmill before it started hurting.

My calves are puny lol, but I did focus on my posterior chain for the last year...maybe I overdid it.

so it sounds like something that is always there. You really need to get it checked out by a specialist. If something is constant and nagging, chances are there is an issue that needs to be looked at, not something i can really do over the internet.

it could be so many things, muscle imbalances, injury to muscles, tendon or ligaments, meniscus, muscle strain, tendonitiis, etc....

your description of walking stairs making it hurt and the fact that it is below the knee cap could mean that it is some patellar tendonitis...but, it could also be a meniscus problem if it is hurting during the lock out.

    have you been icing routinely?

I'm betting on the petellar tendonitis - and Patrick is probably right, this is a chronic inflammation issue.

I'm wearing older shoes but would that make a difference with the Elliptical? I also did a bunch of incline walking on the treadmill before it started hurting.
Get new shoes, regardless. The incline treadmill work probably aggravated the crap out of, and now any stress thru the knee (HITT on the elliptical with an aggressive resistance gearing) might cause frequent flare ups.

Ice. Rest. Traumeel. If you have access to a pool, try swimming as a cardio alternative.

P-funk can probably tell you best what cardio types to avoid for the time being while this chronic injury heals.
