I am going to try the supplements vs. any medication at the moment. I am on a form of birth control rigth now that is starting to fix my skin, BUT I have gained over 10 pounds in the past two months desite following a workout routine/eating properly.

And the more I research Accutane, the more I do not want to try it.

I have terrible skin, and have tried everything including acutane. The one thing that has made the most improvement is washing my face hair and body with head and shoulders. I got this information from www.acne.org. I didn’t believe it, but I was desperate so I tried it. It has worked beautifully.

That would totally irritate and dry out my skin.

That is what I thought, but it is the opposite. Head and shoulders is a dandruff shampoo. Its main goal is to clean the hair without stripping the scalp of its natural moisture and oils. It does the same to your skin. It cleans you skin of dirt and bacteria, but allows the skin to stay moisturized. This prevents skin from drying out and which leads to clogged pores. I learned this after a year of pulling my hair out. Just recently has been the first time in a loooooong time that I would feel comfortable with my shirt off.

Old thread, heh Shame i didn't find it earlier, you were going to go on accutane for cosmetic reasons with the make up etc? Not sure if that would be great, it's fairly serious and all, since i've been on it i've developed allergies and my skin has become way more sensitive - say i go for a swim in a pool (had my entire life) and develop eczma in my elbow crease (goes away) but never had it for the other 19 years of my life. Also it will dry your skin out massively, Having a constant smear of lip balm doesn't even always do it for me. I'm on 40mgs and it's going to be tough to amp it up higher. Let us know how your other skin treatments work out for you.

My sisters, my mom and I all have used it(about 10 years ago). If there is any history or chance of chemical imbalances in the family, I would recommend against it. The stuff made me feel 'altered' and depressed. Not to mention the fact that your lips are constantly bleeding.

I'm on 60mgs, my acne is 100% gone, my lips have actually gotten marginally better (still use lip balm from dawn till dusk). A few months and i can be off it too.

Thanks for the advice, guys. I am still saving up my pennies so I can buy simple supplements, and carefully watch my diet (and giving up all dairy) so I can see if there is a 'natural' way of fixing my skin.

you'd want to use a neutral soap like cetaphil or something, or you'd burn your skin. When dealing with accutane just go under the premise that your skin is 3 times more sensitive or something.

I'll have to try that head and shoulders idea - willing to do almost anything atm. Dealt with this shit for far too long, time to do something about it. Derm appt in 2 weeks.

Btw - try sleeping on your back if you're a stomach sleeper. Just some advice my housemate gave me. Let your face breathe at night.

Thats because your progesterone is being lowered and you have excessive estrogen/progesterone. Even the progestin in the pill are synthethic and are not counter balancing the side effects of the estrogen thats why you are gaining weight because the estrogen is suppressing your thyroid and increasing water retention.
Accutane on birth controls nullifies it same way an antibiotic can..

Dry skin and hypothyroid go hand and hand and if you dr says you are normal yes you may be in range but alsoit may not be optimal for you. Specifically it saids on birthcontrol that it can alter thyroid and thryoid medicatioin may need to be altered..
