    Help me shake this cold....

I've missed two training days down with this cold. I've heard that standard medicines, Nyquil, etc. Aren't the best for your health, is there a herbal remedy?? I've upped my vitamin C intake, I take multi-vitamins every morning. I'm just sick I guess. These single digit temps in detroit don't help.
I do my best to focus on the task at hand, and give 100% in what I'm doing at the time. Nothing else matters except the task at hand.

I have found that Tylenol cold Multi-Symptom helps a great deal. I just got a bottle today to start taking. I've got the coughing, achy, stuffy head, fever thing going on It really helps though! Hope you feel better!

I understand the crappy weather! It's currently 2 degrees here and looks like a blizzard outside. Brrrrrr.

I could feel a cold coming on about a week ago, so that night I took 2 Nyquils (they cant be that bad...they work wonders for me) drank a ton of water, and went to bed in a track suit, socks (kept really warm, almost sweating) the next morning I felt no signs of the cold anymore. I have been doing this for about two years now, and it always works for me. Everyone is different, but it works for me everytime. If you stick to the basics of liquids, and lots of rest, it should be gone in no time.

COLD-FX....herbal remedy that works wonders. The nurses I work with all swear by it. They say that medicine (nyquill etc.) will mask the symptoms, but cold-fx restores your health. You can still take your medicine while using cold-fx. I've tried it several times, works for me.

My cold concoction is 3 doses per day of:

    Cold Snap (Wal-Mart, ask pharmacy)
    Echinacea
    Vitamin C (1gram servings)
    Green Tea Extract
    Zinc Lozenges (every 2-3 hours)

I take this as soon as I feel a cold coming on!

I just had bronchitis and a cold for about a week and a half. I hadn't felt that shitty in a long time. I would literally sit and bed a night and have to "hawk" up a wad of green flem every 5 minutes. Ended up filling one of those 16 ounce Poland Spring bottles full of solid green flem and spit. It was nice. Nyquil helped a lot in getting me to go to sleep, which was very hard to do while coughing non-stop. I also drank a variety of different teas and ate a lot of soup.

I am no doctor but I believe this would warrant an Rx for anti-biotics.

I used the same medication to fight the infection prescribed by my Dr. everytime I've had bronchitis in the past. I didn't mention it because the thread was regarding head colds to which I described in my previous post.

Well this week sucked, and I didn't get to train once all week. Kept to the diet of course, but man was I weak and my sinus' were going nuts.

I was on the Zicam/Nyquil cocktails with Green Tea on the side.

Finally feeling better today, but loss of a whole week. Ah well, we push on to next week and at least I feel better now.

Zinc lozengers every 2-3 hours make sure you balance with 2-4 mgs copper other wise you will make your immune system even more suppressed. Might want to increase vitamin D to 2000 ius for a few weeks see how you feel if you do not get much sun from being inside all day. Reason people get sick in winter time is due to lack of sunlight which drives your immune system as well as helps thyroid. Might want to have serum 25 (oh)d done to check for vitamin D deficeincy very common among people and results should be top 3/4 of the range for optimal health
