Tight traps

So the wife sits at this or that desk all day fixing peoples' computer problems. She has tight upper traps, sore shoulder and headaches. She does pilates(sp?). That helps. I think she needs to focus on her lower traps with some rowing and lat pull downs. Does that sound about right? It can't be to involved or she won't stick with it. What could she do in the gym that would show results and keep her interested. She does some cardio, maybe the rowing machine?

umm, she needs a massage. I have tight traps and rhomboids. They are really bad and it pulls through my shoulders and my chest as well. The only way I feel better is having a massage done every week. Im going to explore acupuncture possibly as well. Oh and I also work at a desk(high stress job)

massage/soft tissue work.

also some scapular retraction and depression exercises (do a search here, we have a ton of threads on this).

stretching

She also needs to change her sitting habits and daily posutral habits (habits of daily living) if she wants the problem to get better. No matter how much shit she does in the gym or with a massage therapist or physical therapist, she is still working hours and hours in a poor postural position. If you don't fix that, correcting the problem is not going to happen.

"If it is to involved then she wont do it."

If It isn't involved enough then it wont work and she wont get better. I would rather spend time fixing the problem then having migraines. She can take her pick though.

Thanks guys. She gets massages after work and even at work. She works at a major hospital and they send people around to give messages... strange but true. I will call her supervisor and see if they have an occupational therapist or someone can help her. She sits in other peoples chairs at times. I don't know if she has been told to adjust each space she works in or if she should? I'll bring that up too.

I had a gorrjus stretch this morning and this thread came to mind.
Get her try sitting with feet planted on floor in front of her, bring one arm over so back of upperforearm lower tricep is resting on the outside opposite upper leg then lean down on it and either and or and drop head and neck and relax open through the traps relaxing into a further spine extension or after or whilst relaxing into the lean, turn head and neck up to look in the same parellel direction as the crossed over arm. soo good.. and probably a really good one for those slightly bigger through the pecs and bis. i was loving it anyway...not .. that mine are particularly big myself atm so much as just working hard.. i think you get the gist though.
